Just wondering.

You really bringing in the cash now MAF?  Your rampant materialism week in and week out leaves me in awe.  ;)

But then, my disposable income is on a tight leash because I'm still under the shadow of school and the prospects of "getting on my feet".

I'd rather not say. DVDs 'n Games are kinda my hobby, as much as it can be, for now. After work I just like laying around and playing games or watchin movies with some Scotch or Brandy. I don't find bar-hopping that fun. Most of my tastes are pretty mainstream, and I dont read of watch any particular type of thing too often so I cant usually throw my intellectual weight around in discussions, but I know what I like and I get what I like.

Im thinking about buying a life-size wood-carved indian from some artisan in the area, just cause it'd be neat to have I think.

You can always try craigslist for a wooden indian, my friend got rid of his that way.

MAF, do you have much of a social life? I hate bar hopping too and If I didn't have a GF I would probably be in a similar situation to you.

That's cool.  I guess I'll just have to keep track of your weekly threads and guesstimate. /internet stalker

Just a different attitude for me.  I mean, there's lots of stuff I'd like to have, but my instincts are to be rather conservative with my cash so I couldn't see myself making the weekly purchases you seem to, even if I had the money.

thekavorka: Its kinda one of my longest running jokes. I always joked about wanting one when I was in retail, and how I would get one if I ever had the money lol.

Boogie: I was that way too when I was in retail, but once things change they change. I think the most responsible thing ive done is finally get my 401k going, but I still dont put shit into my savings account. Trying to reform myself SO HARD WANT TO BUY!

Flame: I have friends. There's a mexican bar I hit with an old friend from work and Drinky twice a month or so. After my last relationship I just sorta gotta tired of 'THE GAME' and realized I could live without the 'better half' for at least a few years. Im sure if the right one comes along that will all change in a heartbeat, but for now ill pretend I have chosen to be TEH LONE WOLF.

Of course, those awful relationships people stay in cause they don't want to be alone are pretty funny at a safe distance.

Most people who consume as many multimedia products of entertainment as him get them illicitly from the Internet for free instead of "investing" so much money on plastic discs. Or they use services like Netflix.

These things always lose their value dramatically over very short periods of time anyway, save for very rare exceptions.

I actually do buy what I watch, in fact having more money inspired me to actually "buy" more things.

Wait, do you think MAF is buying as investments!?

I can outspend MAF any day!  9 seasons of the simpsons in 1 day, along with 2 movies that I am ashamed to admit I like.

But I still can't bring myself to buy the L Word.  What would the cashiers think?!

I bet you maf spends more on games alone than Sonorrat. And everyone who knows Sonrrat knows how much he spends on games! Remember that thread he made about spending 5000 dollars on games that year alone or something and gamestop didn't give him a discount or something and got pissed?

Of course not, but perhaps that the speedy markdowns of these boxed DVD sets and games can put things in perspective.

And what can you do with all this stuff once it's been watched? It's not true that you'll watch them multiple times over.

Admittedly, even if someone doesn't do anything of an anime series or TV show in boxed sets that he bought when it was heavily discounted other than viewing it once, that still represents some good entertainment value for your dollar. And I guess that value is in the eye of the beholder. It's also no one's business but MAF's. But still, to hoard these sorts of products kinda seems like a waste of money.

So the vast majority of the discs contained in your DVD den have been viewed in their entirery more than once?

I only buy things I would be willing to rewatch (unless it's a cheapass bargain bin special).  Since the size of my collection if, well, huge, I can't say I have watched the vast majority more than once, but I would say that the rewatch figure is at least at 50%.

The sad thing is, I bet I make about half as much as TVC and MAF, but I bet I spend almost as much money on DVDs and extraneous crap.  :lol

And I always look forward to reading MAF's "It's <day>! WHAT DID U BUY!?!?!" threads.  They always inspire me to buy stuff (I bought Riviera and Tales of the World for Pee Ass Pee today after reading his last one).

I watched alllllmost everything I own at least twice, this doesnt include purchases over the last two months tho.

Ichiro: I mainly make the threads to inform people whats out there this week that I felt was worth purchasing. Buying new things for yourself is a lot of fun I think.
