The Darkness demo.

about 1.3 GB, don't download it.

The production values are really good with good voice acting, lip-synching, graphics, and even physics.  Gameplay was pretty broken.

For the gunfighting, the enemies were stupid and would stand around and not take immediately take cover.  Most of the enemies are waiting together in a room and easy to clear out.  You also usually outgun the enemy because you can have two guns or SMG's.  The auto-aim was pretty obscene too.  It should not auto-aim at a guy 50 yards away when you have pistols.

Darkness powers were all right.  There were only two in the demo: The tentacle thing to poke out lights and throw things and the thing that can creep on the ground and sneak up on people to bite them.  It was pretty stupid in a lot of the parts since you couldn't use the powers in a lit area.

The demo only had one puzzle involving the gasoline can and it doesn't even tell you you can use it until you pick it up.  Why it lets you turn on the saws in the machine shop as well I don't know.

The graphics were really good but it was only a few character models and small environments so it's not amazing.

I kinda liked the Demo. I don't know if I would buy it but it would definitely be a rental for me. Its missing some of the gloss that Riddick had...can't put my finger on it.

I haven't played Riddick but I assume the shooting isn't anywhere nearly as good.  They're going to do a next-gen Riddick port this holiday I think so I might have to pick that up.

Is it the start of the game?  The first hour is the best part.

It has chapter 1, 3, and 7.  One of them is the mostly gameplay-less car part with the shotgun.

Yeah, Chapter 1 (I believe where he first gets his powers). I'm also into the Mafioso culture and the main characters New York'ish mannerisms are cool with me, so thats a plus.

Starbreeze also didn't hold back on the gore, which I find pretty cool.

The first half of the game is definitely the best part, Jackie gets too overpowered in the end to really make it challenging (black hole! black hole! black hole!).  That said, they amp it up with an awesome score, that when you're powers and guns a blazing, makes you feel like a superhero.

Of course they leave out the Hell parts so they don't confuse people in thinking they've picked up a Call of Duty on accident

You're gay, and the game is shit

There's like zero mafioso in this game, it's LiveJournal. Go rent Mafia or The Godfather instead or something.

The music's pretty good and it'd be worth it to try to track down the soundtrack.  However, the game's really not that fun.  Other than the highway intro, the demo had the first time you got darkness powers (and you couldn't even fucking use them) and grinder's lane which has possibly the worst game puzzle I've ever seen.

What do you get from eating hearts?

There were 5 powers available in the demo.  The tentacles, creeping thing, berserker, gunner, and kamikaze.

I played the PS3 demo.. I thought it was OK.  I was kind of disappointed with the graphics--I thought they would be a lot better.  This is a perfect rental

It might be a good rental but I can see it having a lot of boring parts.

I was torn between this and Overlord. After playing The Darkness I'm definitely choosing Overlord.

The Darkness does have pretty sweet graphics, though. I'll be interested to see what they do with the Riddick port and what price they'll be charging for it (lol).
