House hunting is a soul sucking experience
« on: July 23, 2007, 01:14:33 AM »
We spent all weekend looking for a house in the Seattle area, and after looking at about 30 in the last two days, we saw two that we loved. The one up in Greenlake was apparently sold between the time we toured it and the time we called to make an offer. And then, we lost the one down in Columbia City in a fierce bidding war.

So we're back to square one, and we'll have to do this all over again during the week or next weekend. The good thing is that while they're pricey, houses continue popping up in the city on a daily basis. Even with that said, I'm not sure how much of this my psyche will be able to take...

Any advice from EB homeowners? And no, we're not moving outside Seattle.

not that it compares, but apartment hunting in the OC area was pretty harrowing. 11 people applying for every spot and everyone uses MATHEMATICS to determine the MOST ELIGIBLE APPLICANT which means "lol your salary is 5 digits"

Distantmantra should pick a house with an extra room for renting out.  I would gladly take up the room and enculture the whole household.

How expensive is Seattle real esate compared to major Californian cities?  I visited Seattle several years ago and liked it enough that it's probably one of my top 5 preferred cities for my residency.

The housing market in Seattle is pretty insane right now. You'd hard pressed to find anything that's not a crack house for under $400,000.

We looked at one yesterday that was completely remodeled and had a nice little apartment in the basement, actually.

i hate house hunting.  i've wanted a house for a while now.  i'm tired of apartments.  however, everytime I find one, there's always something major wrong with it, someone else wants it and is willing to pay more etc.  not to mention, it's a huge commitment so sometimes i'm weary about it.  it just sucks.  i figure i'll just casually look for the time being and when i find the house i want, i'll just get it.

The house situation in Seattle has destroyed any chance of avoiding rent rate hikes too. Horrible situation up here right now.

In Seattle, they're converting a lot of apartment buildings into condos. It's going to be very interesting to see where people who work at the grocery stores and fast food places end up living.
