So i watched my collectors edition of Red Dawn, and while entertaining in that 80s kinda way, the whole scenario seemed kinda hilarious. I mean why would a russian paratrooper squad shoot up a school teacher as their first act on the ground? Id think schools would be ignored and the city center would be the focus.
The thing is if that ever happened the entire US would have been super-mobilized for it. Assuredly, it would have meant that NATO had been pushed out of the Fulda Gap and Warsaw Pact mechanized armor/infantry were literally marching across free Europe. If that had happened in the Cold War-certainly glad it never did, since it would have certainly escalated to a strategic nuclear exchange-the entire US would be doing full war mobilization and partisan training.
It's totally not plausible, of course. The geopolitical situation that would enable such events and logistics required for them to be possible were just not ever realistic.
It's a fun movie nonetheless. As for shooting people as soon as they hit the ground, that could be VERY intentional-secure the area being job one if you are dropping in and planning to hold the immediate area.
