Okay a local game store has a lot of decent looking PS2 games on sale for cheap.. was wondering what I should pick up?

These are the ones Im considering:

Disgaea 2 + Bonus CD
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2
Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast
Yakuza
Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams
Suikoden V
Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Raido Kuzunoha
Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter

I'll probably pick up about 4-5 of these, so help me seperate the cream from the crap!

The ones I bolded are good.  Dunno about the others.  Himuro loves Yakuza and the Shin Megami Tensei games, you should ask him.

disgaea 2 is alright. it's not as good as the first one tho.
dds1 is awesome, one of the best games i've played this gen. dds2 isn't nearly as good imo, but you'll probably play it either way just to see what happens.
onimusha: dod isn't as good as the others. i haven't played much of it, but i didn't like what i played. i thought it was like a poor man's devil may cry instead of a better resident evil.
bof v, i hated it. awful graphics and music, and i wasn't really feeling the battle system. i also didn't like that i was supposed to review cutscenes so i could see more details in them to understand the storyline or something.

and get tales of the abyss, it's awesome.

Disgaea 2 Nippon Ichi sucks.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga One of the best ps2 rpgs. It's MegaTen. If you don't pick it up now, get it eventually.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 Better in many ways than the first one

Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast Really good

Yakuza Pretty good. Suggested.

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams It's decent.

Suikoden V If you're looking for a pretty good traditional rpg for the ps2 that isn't Dragon Quest VIII, this would be my suggestion.

Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Raido Kuzunoha It's a very unique and experimental game, but many of its experimentations are flawed and not fully developed. It mixes adventure game elements with traditoinal rpg gameplay with an action rpg battle system and a MegaTen twist. The adventure elements make it feel unique, and I wouldn't mind a more fleshed out sequel. It's worth checking out, if not only to experience it but it shouldn't really be on anyone's priority list.

Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter At the current point in time, this is by far the best ps2 rpg, and best rpg of last gen period. It has one of the most innovative rpg designs in the last 10 years, and is very very underappreciated. With that said, it takes someone who's eager enough to "get" it, but once you do, it is unrivaled. The battle system is balance and varied as shit, offering an amazing amount of depth and skill that not only fixes many jrpg problems, but but outdoes many of them on several levels. For example, there's only 3 characters in the game but each has a unique ability. Take your gunner for instance; if you want to, you can use her to kill weak enemies from afar, making it so you don't have to engage enemies weaker than yourself. The battle system itself is a mixture of strategy rpg and turn based combat. It is to be described as a survival horror rpg, and that is the absolute best description one can give the game. Absolutely daring, fresh, and ballsy, Dragon Quarter is highly suggested.

Thanks for the advice! I'll probably get Yakuza and Outrun (as they are both really cheap) as well as the 1st DDS game and Dragon Quarter. I'll get DDS2 If I dig the 1st one.

Dragon Quarter sounds totally sweet. Ive played Breath of Fire 3 on PS1 and though that was ok... altough it seemed to be a pretty by the numbers game

BoFV is completely different from past BoF's and it turns off many people. Don't be one of those people.

Yay my games arrived. OMG Rachael Leigh Cooke lends her VA 'talent' in Yakuza. Hopefully I can pop a boner as a result. Will be playing that first lol.

Alright played Outrun 2006 last night, OMG! Looks great and plays even better. Only got about 30 minutes in but I can already tell this is a true Sega classic. Started on Yakuza, looks like shit on my TV but the production values just shine (profanity ftw). Characters seem interesting and story looks to be actually decent. Love the power up move when your dude just slams some bitch against the wall, so yeah I'll be putting a bit of time into this tonight.

havent checked out DDS or Dragon Quarter yet... which one should I play first?

I think that you should give DDS a try first but...let me give a warning for DQ. Give it a chance. The game doesn't start moving until you get your dragon powers. THAT'S when the game starts getting amazing. do not base the game off the first dungeon. Keep trying to prevail.
