Anyone else heavily weighing the thought of getting rid of their Xbox360?

I know some people are gonna flip out at a suggestion like this, but oh well.  It's the truth.

There are a number of reasons for this consideration, and the first one being that when I look at system exclusives, the 360 has the fewest that truly interest me.  When I basically look over my current 360 collection, and the games we know are coming in the future, I see less than a handful that are truly exciting to me.

Gears of War and Halo 3 are the two big ones.  Beyond that it's all little stuff that I could live without.  Lost Planet, PGR, and a couple others.  Of course this is all just a matter of tastes, as I happen to have NO interest in games like Mass Effect or Blue Dragon. 


So, lately i've been in this almost constant struggle to convince myself to hold on to my 360 just a while longer, so I can see how great Halo 3 single player really is.  I play multiplayer, but not nearly to the extent of most people.  So, if the single player is dissapointing, I won't be very happy.  Also, the rumors of no online co-op are very dissapointing, and I happen to believe we'll probably never see it happen.


The second big reason I have this desire to get rid of my 360, is basically my ever growing opinion that Microsoft is this giant money sucking leach of a company, and I don't wish to help them in their conquests any longer.  Their marketplace pricing tactics are just sickening to me, and I get infuriated when they try and pretend like they have no control over any of it.  I personally believe they drive most of the prices to be has high as possible, and the publisher just simply nods in agreement. 


Third, on the same note, their handling of the faulty hardware situation has also made me sick to my stomach.  The denials for nearly 2 years, followed by a final admission of guilt, but only covering the actual red rings of death, and nothing else.  It's all just so dirty IMO.  They were hoping they could just keep screwing people forever, but it eventually grew to big for them to control it any longer, so they almost had to cave in.



So, thats about it.  I think I could be very happy just owning a PS3 and Wii for the next 5 years, but it's really just those two big 360 exclusives that keep me holding on.  Of course I also think we'll see a Gears of War 2 next year.

PS3 is dead IMHO. This holiday is just too crowded to make any real impact for the system, between all the big holiday releases there is nothing ps3 that screams must own, and 2k8 isn't looking steller either. and Wii stuff will start showing up this fall for a 2k8 release.

See, thats the thing,  My personal gaming tastes don't make me feel a 360 is a must have machine.  I think 98% of what is on live arcade is a waste of time.  I love Geometry Wars, and Pac Man:CE, and maybe even Assault Heroes.  Thats it.

At the same time, I already have Calling all Cars and Super Stardust HD on my PS3, and I think Stardust is actually better than GeoWars already.

The simple fact is, I'm just more excited about the PS3 exclusives than I am about the 360 ones.  I don't really want to get into a list debate, but i'll give you a quick synopsis of my viewpoint.


360 Exclusives I'm really excited about --  Halo 3, Gears of War, and probably Gears of War 2 (next year), and thats about it.  Maybe Banjo and Kazooie next year.  I also enjoy Forza 2.


PS3 Exclusives I'm really excited about -- Resistance, and probably Resistance 2 (next year).  Motorstorm, and probably a sequel next year.  Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and Heavenly Sword.  All three of those games coming this fall will probably turn into full blown franchises over the next few years, and all of them are very exciting to me.  Then you've got Gran Turismo 5, and MGS4.  There are actually many moore but I won't bother.  You get my point.


Of course I'm not trying to convince others to agree with me.  I was simply wondering if others were thinking the same thing.

The development team has gone on record saying BOTH the 360 and PS3 versions will run at 60fps.

I think thats one of the dirty little secrets of the Xbox360.  In fact, it's probably worth me starting an entirely new thread for. 

When the average person buys the Xbox 360, they spend $400.  But thats usually not the end of it.  A LOT of people use wireless connections these days.  So what dod they do?  They buy the $100 wireless adapter (I did).  That means now they've now spent $500 on an Xbox360.  Then, whats the next thing they do?  They pay $50 for Xbox Live. 

Well shit, what do you have now?  You have a $550 purchase out the door.  Then it gets worse.  With the current price of the PS3 being $500, you also have an extra 40gb over that $400 360, and you also have an amazing Bluray high def movie player as well. 

When you really break it down, on a purely hardware level, the PS3 is a pretty incredible value.  Especially when compared to the 360.  Oh yeah, and the PS3 probably won't die on you in the first year of ownership.  Don't forget that small factoid.


Again, thats not a debate about games, but purely hardware.

Halo 3 is the only reason I haven't gotten rid of the hardware yet.  I just wish I could know right now just how good the single player really will be.  I think the fact that they didn't play the game on stage at E3 though, gives me a decent idea that the game won't be that different from Halo 2.

Don't sell your 360.  My philosophy is that I don't want to miss any games that may be exclusive that console.  If the current fall/winter lineup don't excite you that's fine.  Last generation I mostly gamed on my PS2 and Gamecube, after playing Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox and some other Xbox exclusives I regretted not buying one.  I bought a 360 as penance though.
