I updated too and everything went ok. I probably wouldn't have if I knew this was wiping out peoples PS3s. Must be the same shit with the 360s where the firmware wasn't installing correctly and bricks your system. Hurray for nextgen!

My update got to 49% installation, then the screen went black and I thought "FUCK!". 30 seconds later, I heard that orchestra shit and everything was ok. Scared the crap out of me though... what would I do without my PS3!! :lol

Get a PS3, Demi so that you can join in PS3 owners' excitement for announcements, videos and firmware updates.  With your reputation, you can easily be at least a Captain in the SDF.

Whatever, Xbot.  Can your 360 play trailers in 1080P?  All Xbots ever get are demos.  Who wants to play a game when you can watch it in FULL HD?  LOL

Playing my PS3s "Firmware Update Game" was enjoyable. As it was updating, I swtiched over to the food network and watched that show with the Italian woman with nice sized sweater puppies. The 360 wouldn't have allowed me this pleasure!

Seriously, what's up with the >100mb firmware updates that take forever to install?  PC GPUs are pretty complicated devices yet the driver updates are hardly ever over 50mbs.  I guess the amazing power of the PS3 requires a huge amount of data processing even for a firmware update.

Blu-ray™ disc's hard coating is amazing.  It's worth buying a Blu-ray™ movie just to look at the amazing coating.  True next-gen media FTW!  Keep in mind also that Resistance was only possible with Blu-ray™.  Without  Blu-ray™, it simply wouldn't have been possible for the developers to display so many different shades of brown in Resistance.

I updated my firmware last night and had no problems at all.  I think these incidents of hard drive wiping are REALLY rare, as I've seen nothing about this on most forums.  Just a couple people.

I updated with no problems what so ever either, but either way I could probably just redownload anything I purchased.

I'm just glad I can organize my shit now, being that the PSone games mixed with the downloadable content looked really tacky.

I refuse to replace the slick sleed background with any tacky wallpaper bullshit, it looks great the way it is.

Wireless connections get booted for 5-10 seconds whenever you log onto PSN. My laptop and my wife's laptop lose wifi for second whenever I turn on the PS3.

Actually, after using the PS3, I have to cycle my router because it rape rapes my IP table.  My network is totally hosed and will not work until I restart it, every time I turn on my PS3.  It's a good thing there isn't much to play on it, although I do want top play more Stardust and NG Sigma.  Sony's engineers must be distinguished mentally-challenged.

I have no idea where this stuff comes from.  I hear some of the weirdest stories about people and their networks.  My friend and I both have PS3s, and both use a simple Linksys router, and never have a single issue to report.

I didn't have any problems with my PS3 when DHCP was assigning IP addresses and I didn't have to worry about it.  When I wanted to assign them myself, PS3 was a little bitch and would kick all my other components off of the internet.

There's an element of that going on, but I think there's something else to it.  Also, I didn't have this problem until the previous dash update.

and the PS3 is still hosing your network?  ack.  i highly recommend getting a netgear router if you don't have one.  i'm boycotting linksys after the multiple purchases i've made with their products.  i've had my netgear for 2 years now and it's solid.
