PSP is so great because you can pretend to like it solely because you dont ever have to pay for a game again! I love it! Need to get a flashcart next for my DS, I am done buying handheld titles. Just buy 360 games.

DS flashcart is good but with the older ones you have to use proprietary shit and it's such a hassle

Which one do you like best, out of Baldur's Gate (PS2/XBOX versions) 1&2, and Champions of Norrath 1&2? My favorite is still Baldur 1. It was one of the best looking PS2 games at the time and it was like a perfect combination of Gauntlet and Diablo. Norrath games looked good too but I barely played either one for more than an hour since they were just too much of the same.

Professor (and anyone else who may be able to answer) - from a game design standpoint, what do you think makes up a good loot-based reward system?

For me, this weekend I played a bit of Etrian Odyssey and Half Life 2. Both games I really like.

I guess the reward should be something that makes you feel like it was worth the extra time and effort. For example, a weapon or spell that will allow you to destroy enemies for the next 10-20% of the game. OTOH, it shouldn't be so powerful that you can breeze through the rest of the game with it like some of the FF weapons that people told me about.

in order of preference? baldur's 2 > champions of norrath >= baldur's 1 >>>>>>>> champions rta. I'd bump baldur's 1 higher if it wasn't for the jumping puzzles in the first act; champions gets a boost from the random loot but a ding for the generic locales and broken boss fights. return to arms is just plain bad. baldur's 2 has the homeliest art direction, but the best campaign and is an AWESOME JUST AWESOME 2P experience. i want MAF to bring it over some weekend so we can fuck some monsters up.

tiesto: what smooth groove said -- there should be a REASONABLE chance of you getting good upgrades every hour, and a small chance of getting a fuck awesome upgrade (that will let you fuck shit up for the next 10-20% of the game) over each 3-5 hours of play. also, lots of character customization in terms of skill and equipment, good boss encounters that work well for team play, and a wide variety of interesting skills in general.

I have to say that one of the reasons I wanted P3 on day one on July 24 was because I have an absolute hankerin' for demon collecting right now. I've been wanting to do it for some time, but now that P3's been delayed I'm playing through Nocturne again. Here's hoping I'm not all SMT'd out once P3 comes out.

I got the 1000 Yen bill and I'm on my way to fight Metador, so I'm beefing my party up and preparing for him and Ikeburkuro. I'm level 16, need to get to level 20 or so, so I can create me a few pals that'll help out during the Metador fight. Izumi is really helpful in that fight!

Im playing: Etrian Odyssey (Im up to B19F), Shenmue (just got up the the 3rd disc), Yakuza (just a couple of chapters to go). Outrun 2006 and Gradius V are my bits on the side. Waiting for my RE4 Wii Edition to turn up

How are you liking Shenmue Scenester? The third disc is actually the best disc. It's got tons of action.

Im finding Shenmue to really damn good, I understand all the hate the game gets though, its definately not for everyone. Graphically it still holds up extremely well, the textures are really sharp(looks better than most PS2 games IMO). The fight with the fucked up bald guy at the arcade was pretty scary

. Well I havent 'started' the 3rd disc yet, just got to the end of the 2nd disc last night night saved it and turned it off. (Havent burned the 3rd disc off my PC yet lol) . But Im definately looking forward to playing the rest of it, and Ive got Shenmue 2 waiting for me so I'll play that afterwards. Once I finish Yakuza Ive got DDS1 and 2 to get through and BOFV... so I probably dont need to spend any money on games for a little while

The textures and the amount of detail that went into Mue is insane. The amount of detail those games have is still not topped, and I can only imagine GTAIV topping it.

shenmue has some truly godawful art direction. it's garish, like a slug's viscera; it's colorful e-coli spread cross low poly environments.

and lighting? WHAT LIGHTING. there's a bad alpha mask shadow in that scene, himu, and that doesn't equal anything resembling good lighting. go back to your hinasturbation and quit commenting on game aesthetics!

devil may cry 1 has some of the most aggravating boss fights ever. not because they are inherently difficult, but because the camera positions make it fucking impossible to gauge distance and attack patterns without regular trial-and-error.
