seattle's best > starbucks
« on: July 27, 2007, 04:19:09 PM »
i go to the local border's just to grab a cup of this goodness.  it sucks that in california we don't have individual shops around here like you WA folks.  it's hard to go back to the bitter/staleness of starbucks after tasting the best.  i've got a good caffeine buzz goin' right now.  fuckin' great friday.

I hate how coffee stains your teeth so I try not to drink it anymore. I'll still go for an energy drink, though. I used to LOOOOVE frozen coffees from Starbucks, though.

I can easily go to both, and I dont prefer seattle's best. Here its dished out at McDonalds and various other locations and it tastes gross.

But ive recently switched to tea 90% of the time to deal with heartbeat issues I was having, but if I had to choose, starbucks all the way.

really? the starbucks over here is terrible... i mean, it's as if they don't clean their espresso machines, it always tastes like old burnt coffee.  seattle's best on the other hand is so smooth and tasty.  a shame they serve it @ the mcdonalds there, that's a major turn off.

Is it a natural thing to get sick from tea?  I figure it's just an electrolyte issue and I should probably eat something with it, but I don't even go near that stuff anymore.

depends on the kind of tea. English Breakfast Tea makes me sick, but Earl Grey and Green Tea are fine. STASH brand Peach Black Tea is also incredibly good.

english tea is great.  mix that w/ a little cream and you've got yourself a tasty morning drink.  when i stayed in the UK for a bit, they converted me into a tea guy temporarily... but only if it was english black tea w/ cream.  so gooood.

Starbucks burns their beans. I don't mind their coffee, actually, but I'd rather get my coffee from Ladro or Vita.

Starbucks has better breakfast sandwiches.  They win

My favorite Seattle coffee joint is probably Top Pot.  I lived like a block away from the Cap Hill location so I have a spiritual connection with it.  Ladro would probably be number 2.  3 would be. . .what's that place under the Elliott Bay Book Company?  That's an awesome coffee place.

I've never had the coffee at Top Pot, just their awesome donuts.

Yeah, their donuts rock, and they're like available all over the city.  I love their chocolate glazed.

I usually just get americanos.  If I am feeling especially womanly I may get a mocha or latte with caramel sauce, whipped cream, and cinnamon.

You can get Top Pot all over Western Washington, since Starbucks sells them now.

Nah, those are usually reserved for mornings when I need both a sugar rush and caffeine to arise.  It is a functional beverage, not one consumed for pleasure.

Top Pot donuts make a person huge tho, as delicious as they are. I had to stop eating anything cept the multi-grain rolls at starbucks to keep my office job guy weight under control. Tho I suspect the multi-grain rolls aren't as multi-grain as advertised :(

Plus its a drip black or an americano. Cream and sugar am for wusses total.

This is why I like Seattle's Best -- snotty hippy-kids that hate Starbucks for no real reason go there thinking they are sticking it to Sbux.

Did you know studies have been done that show that independent coffee shops get a boost in sales whenever a Starbucks opens near them? The anti-Starbucks crowd flocks to them.

I mean I hate to see a Starbucks on every block (and for real, in San Diego, THEY'RE ON EVERY BLOCK) but they treat their employees well and they give back to their communities so what the fuck?

Yeah most small coffee shops dont mind starbucks being nearby, in part due to the fact that Starbucks is apparently pretty fair in its competitive practices. Theyre just happy more people are getting into coffee, of course they want more people to get into their coffee but I think there is a genuine love of the coffee from starbucks to Jacks Java Shack

Starbucks is probably the last place in the world that doesn't offer free WiFi (or at least, a free WiFi pass with purchase).  Gives competitors a huge advantage....they aren't as ruthless as some people think.  (The kickbacks they get from T-Mobile's pay-to-play Wifi don't hurt either though).

Their prices are way higher than anybody else, so local coffeeshops have plenty of opportunities to undercut them.
