With a Wii purchase just on the horizon for ol' Gilmeister, what do I need to know about the Wii? Acessories? Games? Rentals vs Purchases? Clue me in!

I'll try and get this in before haterz ruin this thread.

You're going to want at least one more wiimote for multiplayer–Wii Sports is infinitely better with two people. If you REALLY want a better two player experience, might as well get another nunchuck as well.

If your looking into buying some virtual console games, I'd say give the classic controller a shot. It's only twenty bucks and it's pretty comfortable, and works PERFECTLY with non-64 games. With some 64 games, it's just a tad awkward due to the second stick. And of course, buy some Wii points.

Get the two channels as well. I don't know if you have to pay for the internet channel yet, though.

As for games, I'd say you buy Zelda (if you haven't already done so for the cube), Wario Ware, and Excite Truck. I think Mario Strikers has come out, so I'd say buy that as well, a lot of people who have it now really love it. Plus it has lag-free online play.

I'd give a rental to Rayman, Monkey Ball, and Super Paper Mario. SPM is good and all, but it's so far from the quality of the first two in the series it's downright disgraceful. I'd also say you rent Mario Party if you want to have a fun multiplayer game for a weekend. As medicore as the series is, it's still fun with 4 people.

And get realy to buy Zack and Wiki, Bwii 2, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, and Brawl.

Drinky was not being sarcastic, you really need a 25" CRT if you want Wii games to look good at all or the pointer to work correctly. :/

Also, the only actually good games to look forward to are No More Heroes and iNis' unannounced music project. Zack and Cody will suck, Metroid will suck, Brawl will suck so much I feel insulted even pointing out it will suck. Mario will be okay but hardly worth owning the system for.

Funny, I have a 30" HD set and it looks fine.

Get a TV with a decent scaler and it'll be fine.
Get a TV with a shitty scaler and any low res source will look assy.

Wii games look particularly assy on HD sets because the image quality is strikingly poor. Check EB's RE4 thread for further commentary.

32" HDTV and it really stretches the limit of what I'd call "good."

I'd get Trauma Center and Zelda. RE4 Wii is good if you haven't played RE4.

The rest of my wii experience is Call of Duty 3 (bad), Red Steel (horrible), Rayman (disappointing), and Wario Ware (beat it in two hours and sent it back to gamefly same day).

I haven't played excite truck.

I tend to disagree, again a good flat set will yield good results.

Wii works for me because my HD set is a crt, and it's not anything over the 30" range.

I don't think the wii is shit. I do think that Wii games can look pretty assy, especially depending on graphical style. Wario Ware looked really, really sharp to me. That game probably could have been done by the Wii in 720p too. Nintendo shouldn't limit the output.

Because I've been moving all over the place for the last year and will continue to do so for the next 6 months. I can't haul the HD back and forth the country, so I sold it to my parents. And then I'll be off with the Peace Corps starting next summer, so you can see the wisdom in resisting an investment. I want a Wii because my life is about to get unbelivably busy and I want a sort of relaxation device my wife and I can enjoy together instead of the 360 SPECTACLE MACHINE. I adore my 360, it just doesn't fit my lifestyle at the moment. I can't afford an HDTV everywhere I go.

Now I'm all wound up. Is there anyone still playing a 360 on SD? I'd probably end up playing at around a 25" SD. That's a step down from old 42" HD, but it's the best I can do. Is that reasonable or should I go Wii-time?

360 on SD is still better than the Wii. Don't buy a Wii. It won't be relaxing. It will be frustrating, because every game is a mess of neuroses and unfulfilled potential.

yes it is. Wii is a good system, and as for your question about all the games being shallow... well at this point most of the games are shallow. Exceptions: Excite Truck (lots of play modes and a complex array of courses and techniques to master, lots of hours of play here), Zelda (duh) and ummmm yeah... everything else is just a fun distraction. But I really enjoy playing Wii. Although mine isnt getting much use at the moment, as Ive already played all the notable games, Itll get a weeks use when something comes out then just marinate, waiting for the next good game $:-\$ But you shouldnt have that problem

Thats finally what did it for me....between my PSOne/PS2 backlog...my PS3 games, my PSP and my X360 I just didnt have time for the Wii's monkeyshines....let someones grandparents have fun with it....meanwhile ill invest time in games I really wanna play....

I play 360 mostly on an SD set and it looks good. surround sound is much more important than HD (but I'd imagine much more inconvenient). It definitely looks better than wii. Even the worst looking 360 games I've played look better than most wii games.
