Work PC crashed, data recovery ideas?
« on: July 30, 2007, 05:49:58 PM »
My work PC crashed today and I'm going to lose some valuable data that cannot easily be duplicated.  I'd love to hear everyone's ideas on what I can try to get this HD to boot?  I am going to try the newest version of Ghost to see if it can recognize the drive, Windows XP no longer recognizes it.  Are there any other programs I can try that might be worth a shot?  I heard a home remedy might be sticking it in the freezer, anyone have any luck with that?

I'm pretty desperate I'll try just about anything.

How far does your PC get into the boot process? Do you have the XP cd to attempt to repair it? Good chance the recovery console might not see the HD anyway tho, but who knows.

if your work is willing to pay for it, you can always bring it to an hdd recovery shop.  one of my hdd's crashed (had pretty much my life's work on it) and they were able to recover pretty much all the data.  was surprised considering the thing would not boot again.

The PC thinks there is no HD in there, I've slaved it and tried to look at it in another Win XP machine but no luck.

The data isn't valuable enough for a data recovery place, it's just going to be really shitty for me for the next couple of days if I can't get it.

I've got a couple of leads to try tonight, but I'm always open to more ideas.  I'd rather spend a day or two trying to fix it than redo that data (some of which just won't get recollected).  Each day I take trying to fix this problem is another day I get behind.

Try shoving the drive in another machine, that should isolate where the problem lies.
