MAF First Impressions - Alien Syndrome

-Overpowered Melee
Im only 1.5-2 hours in and im already critting at 300 damage. Im tank class too, so the damage I take is a series of 1's. I actually had to drop most of my potions cause it made up a good half of the weight I was carrying.

-Loot Tables are Good, Craft system is neat.
Good drops all around, almost always something interesting on the ground. Cept potions, dont need those. Why? Well I can craft potions with my over-abundance of resource points.

-Armor is mostly ugly.
So far its ugly. I look like a starving master chief with yellow pants and a stick.

-Great visuals
No accounts for style, but on a technical level the visuals are pretty damn snazzy. I love the small frame stop on crtical hits. Adds impact. So far its mostly spaceship stuff but what ive seen so far has had a lot of variety.

-Good sense of Feedback in Melee
As mentioned the frame stop on criticals is neat. The sounds used for hits are also very meaty and the little visual effects for weapon impacts look good and stuff gets blown up, thrown across the room, and dies very nicely.

-Bugs
Weird issues with repeating screams after death and cutscenes being cut short so a new level can load.

-Strangely Compelling
Im playing it, im enjoying it. Kudos to the formula.

-Analog nub works better than expected
From what ive read from other impressions in various locations I was expecting a 5-car pile up and ended up experiencing a roadside stall. While its not the most comfortable interface for a couple hours of endless grind, it doesnt cause the problems I anticipated.

-Throw Away Story
Go here, Go there, Aliens - Consoles.

-All Skills Look to be Passive Skills. Weapons and armor the focus of additional effects.
No new moves, just faster and harder hits and less damage taken and increased resistances. Weapons and armor add all of the additional effects like fire, electricity, radiation etc...

-Really Easy.
I died once so far cause I thought the hole in the ground was a decorative texture. Lol. I will say its probably harder as a ranged character cause you have to balance the energy for your gun and your shields, but when youre melee you can dump it all into your shields and if you do it right, youre pretty unstoppable. There was ONE enemy that gave me pause but not enough to kill me.

-Good for OCD Level Grinders (like myself)
Lots of stuff to kill and lots of levels to move through.

-20 dollars too expensive. Its a 20 dollar game.
For the amount of actual gameplay mechanics employed I would think this a 20 dollar game. Very arcadey and thats fine, but for 40 dollars I would have liked cool combat skills rather than passive modifiers and weapon enhancements.
