What are YOU playing - Friday 8/3/07
« on: August 03, 2007, 02:53:58 AM »
Another week of long work hours and minimal game time for me :(

In the X360 I am trying to find redeeming qualities in my Bomberman ACT 0 disk. I am itching to dig deeper into Marathon and will definately do so this weekend when I have more time.

In the PS3 I am still rokkin Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and I just downloaded Blast Factor: Advanced Research which I will be playing this weekend.

In the PSP - still Alien Syndrome. I will likely try to get some Rengoku II playtime in as the memory of it is creepin me out a 70' Bowie video...

Whatchu got goin on this weekend in the way of gaming?

Not far at all, I bought both games a while back but VP2 consumed me, then .Hack consumed me, now Brave Story is taking up all my time. I like what ive played so far, but that almost counts for nothing. i've been steering clear of Himuro threads cause he's a big fat spoiler.

I brought my DS to Nebraska for the long car rides and the flights, so I've been rockin' Final Fantasy III and Ouendan 2.

I like it a lot, people complain its by the numbers plot wise like Final Fantasy and most of the mechanics are as traditional as a freaking Dragon Quest game, but you know if either of these series pooped out another game today they would lap it up and ignore the obvious.

I personally find the game charming, lighthearted and fun. the same damn reasons I loved Skies of Arcade so WHUTUEVER

Hmm I hated SoA for being overly traditional and a bit too 8bit. I guess if the encounter rate isn't awful and the loadtimes are okay it might be worth a go...

Consoles:

Crimson Skies - I posted about this already, and I think I'm about done with it. I'll take it to my family's house and let my little brother play it.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath: Great art, interesting gameplay. But I don't like the main character - he sounds like a moron, and his (Lorne Lanning's) voice has too obviously been put through a pitch-changer. Why did Lanning have to voice so many characters in this? It's too weird then the bad guys have the same voice as the lead.  I'm not feeling too invested in this so far.

Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders: Ugh, what a pile of sludge.  I just can't get interested in this at all. I just want to play a Musou game with these characters, and this game's shaders/lighting.

The Warriors: Just played the tutorial after finishing the movie last night.  It feels surprisingly coherent and non-insulting (a marvel for a mainstream title these days), and the brawling's pretty fun.  I'll see where this takes me.  Feels like a labor of love, like the developers are all huge fans of the movie.

Handheld:

Etrian Odyssey: FOE! FOE! FOE! FOE! MADE OF AWESOME

Brave Story is verrrry traditional, it's really casual too, it's pretty easy. Encounter Rate is very low, battles are usually over by tapping X (Attack) and watching the animations. I'm not sure how far I am, I have 3 gemstones (out of 5 according to the game) - I think I'm at Chapter 9? Dunno how many there are. Gonna play more tonight.

It probably [is] the best PSP RPG available - that is, original RPG, excluding the ports.

I am finding it annoying in DMC2 that they switched the button for jumping and the button for sword attacks from the first game.

It's far from the greatest RPG I've ever played, but I'm enjoying this a lot more now than around late 1996 when I first picked up the game. Maybe because its a breath of fresh air - it's quick moving, with simplistic combat, a modern setting, and goofy lighthearted text. Started a new game today and made it to Threed.

I actually just now managed to find 5 people playing Bomberman Act ZERO online.

The game is great fun - and not too bad of a looker...I dont know why it gets such shyt...

I will say it feels like it should be a 20$ downloadable game rather than a full DVD.

Groo, did you know that Taiko No Tetsujin DS has a huge big that caused a recall?  Apparently changing your charcter's outfit locks up the game, and could permanently brick it.

I'm playing more CLEAN YOUR APARTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111  I would be way past done if the wife would help, but she's got to work all day, and on her days off, she's been too tired so it falls upon me alone.  :-\  I guess the upside is I get to do whatever I want with the place and it's tough shit if she don't like it!   :P

With a bit of Tekken 5 DR ONLINE :o, Minna No Tennis, Minna No Golf 5, KOF Maximum Impact Regulation A, and the new "upgrade" to Ultimate Ghosts N' Goblins on PSP (Daimakaimura Kai).

It cost around $25 in Japan, BTW.  I couldn't believe it was released for a higher price in English.  As for the hate...it doesn't offer very much compared to all the Bombermans that were released before it. And only one arena type?  No excuse for that.

I got it out of the $9.99 bin ay CC - so im not feeling ripped...

I agree it seems limited buts its just fun - especially when the borders start closing in to crush you...

I also like the health bar based combat...makes the rounds last longer and become more punishing...

You can set it to play like regular bomberman with one hit kills.
