It was $4.88 at Sam's Club.  I like movies so bad that they're entertaining, but I don't know about this one.  I've never seen it, but it seems to have been almost universally slammed.

For the record, I thought Halloween: Resurrection was a turd (saw it at the theater when it came out), but I own it on DVD anyway.  Being a completist takes priority over taste sometimes.

I also bought the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (another blind purchase lolz) because it too was $4.88 and it was the double disc set with this shiny tin cover thingy.  I like shiny things.

sabotaged by too much non-sensical sci-fi crap to achieve that state IMO... it's such an obviously absurd gimmick used to set-up and let a band of youths at Jason's mercy... come on...

That's right, folks - this year, the 13th of the month occurring on a friday will happen in October!  WOOT WOOT WOOT.

Yes, but this time it's in October, right in the middle of my month long horror movie marathon!

And my showings will be uncut, without commercials, and in their original aspect ratio. :spin

However, I'll probably resort to watching a couple of them on TV, as I don't own any of the other F13 movies on DVD.  Though curiously I do own the recalled F13 part VIII theatrical poster - the I heart NY one.

That poster was my desktop wallpaper for like, a year.

I love 'em all in a sick, twisted perverted way.  And honestly, the only thing the cable showings really cut out is nudity, which is sporadic at best (mostly implied) and usually sucks (banana boobs!).

I think my favorite is Part VI: Jason Lives, though.  So good, from a camp standpoint.  And that scene where Jason stands on top of the overturned winnebago is a classic.

I haven't seen most of them for years.  I think the last time I saw one was Jason Goes To Hell in probably '93 or '94.

I'll have to start a separate thread for horror movie discussion, but here are the October schedules for TCM and AMC:

TCM

AMC

Good to hear that AMC doesn't edit the movies as much as I thought they would.

"The Fear Of God" documentary on The Exorcist 25th Anniv. DVD is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen.  The Backstory: Halloween sounds like it could be different than the stuff on the Anchor Bay DVD (the second release, before the 25th anniversay edition).  Hope it's new interviews, etc.

Yeah, AMC is doing a bang up job.

I got to say, despite the fact that they're vastly inferior to the first two entries in the franchise, Halloween 3-5 really creep me out due to the atmosphere and film stock they use.  It's mostly the latter, because the lighting combined with the film quality gives this weird, creepy vibe I just cannot explain.  Several films that look similar give me the same vibe.

I will also use this as a platform to spread my conspiracy theory, Error.  Last year, I unearthed the underrated 80s gem, The Changeling, in an effort to restore my fuzzy memory of this mostly overlooked horror film.

That's when I was surprised that Ringu apes so many plot elements from this movie, that I have no doubt that the Japanese writer who came up with Ringu directly stole scenes and elements from The Changeling.  The result?

A Hollywood sequel to an American remake of Japanese remake of an original American story.

I definitely agree.  With regards to atmosphere, Halloween 3 has this really creepy vibe to it.  It has some weird unsettling feeling to it.  The first time I saw it, I just hated it.  I thought it was such a bad film, even though I went in to it expecting nothing to do with the other Halloween movies.  But for some strange reason, a few weeks later, the feeling I had transformed into an almost nostalgic feeling for the movie.  4 and 5 are underrated, although like you said, 3-5 are vastly inferior to the first two.  I can't recall exactly the way they looked, and I'll have to pay attention to that next time now that you mentioned it.  They had some pretty good atmosphere.  Part 6 is the only one I haven't seen (I have it on DVD but it's in shrinkwrap - thank you DeepDiscountDVD sale).

Six has far superior set design, but it looks so slick in comparison to the ones that came before it that it loses a lot of that creepy atmosphere that I think was due more to film stock and cheap lighting.  The middle entries look cheap, but I think life in general doesn't look so polished, so the films are more unsettling.  Halloween 6 is pretty horrible, though; probably the worst of the whole bunch.  Donald Pleasance no longer comes off as a cool hero, but more like a creepy pedophile dude.

Also, it has Paul Rudd in it as Tommy Doyle which is just LOL-tastic.

The Changeling has a murder mystery about parents who killed their kid, and Patton is trying to figure it out!  There some creepy stuff like the wheelchair, a bouncing ball, and - what the deuce! - a possesed person drawing CRAZY RANDOM, BLACK CIRCLES ON DRAWING PAPER!

Patton races to unearth the dead child and free his spirit, which is - shocker! - in a well-type thing, buried beneath some floorboards at a house (which he rips up).  He is relieved to think he has freed the child's spirit, but - oh no! - now he is free to get his revenge!

Better movie than Ringu, actually, but too much shit directly ripped from it.  Totally diminished my respect for the Japanese film and Verbinski remake.

The Changeling is good, but the tone of it vx Ringu and The Ring is completely different.  It's a leisurely paced ghost story whereas The Ring is more of a zippy, stylistic suspence flick.  They're both definitely good movies, and I wouldn't be surprised if Ringu (or the novel it's based on) stole a few cues.

Also, everyone should go see the original Carpenter gem that nobody ever mentions - The Fog.  That film fucking oozes atmosphere.  Not his best, but - man - watching that opening on a cold October night really brings out the best in this festival of horrors!

And not the fucking remake with today's hottest television stars.  How come the original had both old and young people (some were not that pretty), yet the island has been apparently reduced to a group of hot people under 30 in the remake.

The original fog has got atmosphere in spades, but I think overall it is Carpenter's weakest film from his classic period.  There are characters that serve absolutely no purpose in it other than to add their name to the cast list (I'm looking at you Jamie Lee).

That is such a line of bullshit - I admitted that probably someone like Tapert probably saw it and said, "Hey, let's do something along the lines of this!"  Your argument was that it wasn't original whatsoever, and was pretty much a scene-for-scene remake just to troll me and illicit a response!

I don't think I ever implied it was a scene-for-scene remake.  It does take the concept of Equinox wholesale, though.

So I watched the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre yesterday.  You know, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be.  Though it lacked most of the sick, effed up atmosphere of the original, in some ways I liked it more, even though that's just straight blasphemous of me to say so.  I never was really moved by the original.  Sure it was groundbreaking and all, but it was a bit of a chore to sit through - not because it was disturbing, but because my mind started to wander.  And all the screaming at the dinner scene was getting on my nerves.  I'm glad the remake left that part out.  Oh, and Jessica Biel in a little white tank top and super tight jeans doesn't hurt either. :spin
