I wouldn't put Shenmue on a top 10 greatest games list. While I like Shenmue, but one of the greatest games ever? lol.

Anyways, I don't see the point of these lists. I have played hundreds of games and it's impossible to make such a list, I tell you. Impossible.

It's obvious no one is going to agree on best game lists, but when you're doing a "top 10 best games of all time," I think you need to at least choose from games that have been out for several years, if not games that go back at least one console generation.  I can't see games like Half-Life 2, FFXII, and even RE4 (which I love) being on these kinds of lists in a few years.  Really the only game on that list I agree with is Tetris.

As far as single-player FPS is concerned, I have yet to play a better one than HL2, I could see why that game would be on the list, aside from some annoyances here and there, the pacing is almost flawless, the graphics are pretty timeless, and the level design is great.

In the end, I ended up liking Wind Waker more than TP. The nostalgia shit in TP is ridiculous. It doesn't know what it wants to be, and it proves that once again Nintendo should hire goddamn writers.

With TP, you can tell that Nintendo was heart broken people didn't like Wind Waker as much as they did, so they made it as generic as possible.

sometimes, more isn't better, especially when said "more" is scrounging for tears of light or cutting away to shitty mini-game sequences or backtracking ad nauseum. the uselessness of the optional collectables and the game's wind waker-grade lack of difficulty don't exactly help it sparkle, either.

(i liked twilight princess. the last half of the game is made of awesome. that doesn't stop the pacing of the first half from being total fucking tedium.)

Really? The Temple of Time? Once you figure out that Temple's gimmick, it's like just repeated over and over....and it isn't even an interesting gimmick like the Sky Temple's double hooking or the arbiter's spinner. ToT had an AMAZING intro (totally fed off nostalgia) and just kinda fell flat to me.

TP's world was pretty boring and dull also. The sidequests sucked and most of them were pointless because all you got for them was rupees even though there was nothing to spend them on. Same for the minigames.

Interaction with npcs was dull compared to the other 3D Zelda games, especially in Castle Town. They made it seem so big and busy, but there was hardly anything to do there.

Searching for tears of light got tedious really quick. Every time I had to do it, I thought "not this shit again."

You got too many items that you would use in like one dungeon and then never again.

There were some good dungeons, but overall I felt that OoT's dungoens were better. Btw, I didn't really like the Sky Temple besides the boss fight.

Zelda served almost no purpose in the story, but they put her in the game anyway.

The ending was meh.

Zant was a better villian than Ganon ever was, and yet they turned him from sinister villian with nasty teeth to a goddamn clown in seconds. It makes no sense, and the only justification for doing so is forcing that taco Ganondorf, one of the worst villians of all time, in to TP.

I thought the dungeons in the game mostly rocked, which created my orgasm over the game at release, but the lack of difficulty made the dungeons disappointing despite being fun. The boss fights in particular were incredibly flat and plain despite their great premises. The Arbiter's Ground boss fight was fucking awesome though.

That's what I did. No camera control in a 3D Zelda is horrible.

Oh, and Nintendo needs to bring in some outside composers. Cuz theirs are pretty unremarkable.

I could almost see Mitsuda scoring a Zelda, except he hates good games now and only does shit handheld rpgs.

edit: I totally agree they RUINED Zant. He was cooler and his cutscenes had better direction than anything Nintendo has done in the last 10 years, but they totally ruined him for the purpose of squeezing Gannondorf in.

I really liked TP btw. I'm just saying that FoC is wrong for thinking that it's better than OoT. It's not better than Majora's Mask either. I'd probably put it over Wind Waker though because of its boring ass sailing, the Triforce fetch quest, and its lack of dungeons.

Tri Force quest took me about 5 minutes to do, and I could care less about the lack of dungeons. The reason I play Zelda games is for the adventure and exploration. I got that in Wind Waker, unlike in OoT, who's world map was devoid of any life.

I couldn't be more boring than OoT's world. At least there's giant squid, pirate ships to raid, pirate forts to fuck up, and islands you'd like to go to and explore but can't (fire and ice islands), and islands you couldn't otherwise find without exploring (with tons of booty).

I didn't say anything about the lack of orchestrated soundtrack. Nintendo always fails on it's promises, so I didn't really expect the ost to be orchestrated. It's like wanting Smash to be online even though Nitnendo said they learned from the past. They haven't learned shit. When you start to realize this, you will be fooled less.

There's nothing inherently wrong with MIDI or synth or non-real instruments. I mean, FFXII is not orchestrated and its sound quality is superb.

It's just a matter of being cheap or lazy. There's no technical reason.

Why? Twilight Princess was everything OoT was and more.

No it wasn't. This is the most common mistake people make.

TP does virtually everything that OoT did, but WORSE. Really, it's only saving grace was the fuck awesome dungeon design. The first 3 (especially Lakebed Temple) were better than OoT's first 3. But that's where the positives end.

Also, I agree about the music as well. It's just unbelievably uncanny that out of Nintendo's entire ensemble of composers, they picked the absolute worst ones for their biggest project (outside of Kondo, of course).

And yes, I agree about Zant too. If they weren't going to do anything special with Ganondorf, they should have left him out completely.

every dungeon in TP is better than the ones in OOT. I dint think it's even a debate here. TP>OOT unless you have the nostalgia glasses I dunno how you can say 'TP does everything OOT did but worse'

the only disappointing aspect about TP is the story, the triforce thing just felt tacked on, when the game was all about Midna, Zant and the twilight realm the story was pretty nice by Zelda standards. as soon as Ganondorf made it into the story it all goes downhill. one aspect I really hate about Zelda games is that you reach a point in any Zelda game where the story comes to a halt, there is no character development, the plot doesn't move forward, it's like time stops in the game and until you get what you were ordered to fetch the the story doesnt get anywhere. Okami did a much better job in this regard, the plot is constantly moving forward and there is TONS of character development.

I didn't mind the wolf sections either, but after you get the master sword it feels like a gimmick. Even when you were forced to turn into a wolf it felt like a gimmick, unlike sailing in WW and time travel in OoT. In those games it feels natural. In TP it feels like "Why the fuck did they put this in here?"
