Steroids/performance enhancing drugs. They have little to do with the eye concentration needed for HRs, but they help you hit balls farther for longer periods of time.

According to articles ive read his ability to hit home runs has been in sharp decline since age is starting to break his body down. I dunno, I think using steroids while theyre illegal is wrong, but performance enhancing drugs in a competitive field is kinda par for the course id figure. Like you say its still hard to hit a home run, so whatever.

There's no proof but it's likely that he hasn't been taking drugs that speed up recovery ever since the whole steroids issue blew up in his face.  Also, there actually are stuff that would help someone's eyes work better too, which he probably isn't taking either.  Which makes his performance this year remarkable for his age.  People sometimes forget that Bonds was a multiple MVP winning HOFer even before he suddenly got all big.

True, but they make it easier. Many balls that could have been simply nice hits turn into home runs. His home run ability increased as he aged too.

The problem with performance enhancing drugs in competitive fields is that it's cheating: if one player is doing it, it cheapens the game. If a pitcher find a way to cheat that allows him to throw 150mph fast balls every other pitch, that's simply cheating. And eventually other players will start taking the same stuff in order to compete, which further cheapens the game.

That would probably destroy the sport lol. Baseball is already taking lots of damage with this Bonds business. As Willco said, even people in San Fransisco aren't that intent on supporting this guy. Baseball is more about stats and numbers than any sport; you may hear football fans talking about records, but not nearly as much as baseball fans. It's apart of the very essence of the sport, and a full assault on it wouldn't have good results.

Where's Cajole?

That's why basketball is the best team sport.  If you get rid of the crooked refs.  lol  Unlike Football and Baseball, steroids won't help much in basketball.  Skilled players can consistently dominate guys that are bigger or more athletic.

I love baseball more than most things in life, but I really don't give a shit about the whole Bonds situation one way or the other.

Let's get back to talking about the pennant race, and not about some duder who's on a team 15 games under .500.

Yup basketball is more about athleticism and skill. But just being able to jump high (Josh Smith) or shoot 3s (Jason Kapono) isn't going to make you superior to everyone else; you need a balance. That's why Kobe is still so far ahead of LeBron and these other new guys. LeBron has superior athleticism, but his basketball skills (and IQ) are much much lower. Plus he can't hit a jump shot

I can't palm the ball :'( :'( :'(

If I could I'd have no problem dunking. I prefer to carve my way on the block and shoot the J. No one expects the big man to shoot the j dammit! :bow

6'3, black, and you can't dunk?  See how bad porn and videogames can be for you.  There's still hope though since you're so young.  Look online for exercises that can increase your hops by 6 to 12 inches.  Hell, you can get 6 inches just from balling more often.  Palming really doesn't make a difference if you can get high enough.  I've seend lots of guys dunk w/one hand even if they can't palm it.  They just kinda squeeze the ball against the forearm but you have to get a bit higher than usual.  Dunking w/2 hands is more impressive though and it sounds like you're not that far away from doing it.

I agree that a J would be more useful in the long run but dunking ability gets you mad props.  Hard work can get most guys to shoot but it can't get them to dunk.

Oh man, you don't play ball where I play ball. Going for a dunk is suicide :lol

I have the hops to get up there, but I have to go up with both hands. I've dunked before, but even then it was weak lol.

So you can dunk then?  When I said dunk, I just meant the ability to dunk, fool.  Of course, it's a lot harder in a game.  But you also said you're considered big where you play so in-game dunks shouldn't be out of the question.  I've seen 5'9 guys dunk repeatedly on rough courts.  Have you seen Spyda from And-1?  I've seen him at E3 and was amazed by how small he is in real life.

Nah I usually play with a mixture of guys from various apartment complexes, and some people from school. I need to put on some weight definitely, but I'm fast enough to hold my own. Sort of like Richard Hamilton - constantly moving off screens (something that LeBron still doesn't understand). They're 6'3-6'6. Sometimes my dad plays with us, but only for a couple possessions lol. He's 6'6

That's a pretty big bunch of guys for playground games.  Does your dad cheat?  Old guys are the worst.  They can't jump no more but they still always win.   Old guys are smart enough to know it's better to foul than to give up a layup since there're no free throws.  Also, they make up for their lack of speed with great passing and screens.  That'll be cool if you dunk in your dad's face.

With regards to Lebron, I agree that he needs better off-ball movement and a more accurate J.  But the thing is, the critcism has gotten to Lebron so much that he tries so hard to prove that his J is good.  Right now, Lebron should just keep taking it strong to the hole and dishing the ball which are the two things he does best.  Young MJ couldn't shoot for shit either but he was smart enough to know his strengths.  Which is why MJ just concentrated on scoring w/layups and dunks.
