How big is WoW?
« on: August 08, 2007, 10:58:26 AM »
I have had the game since february but I have never played it, lol.  People have told the world is like 3-4 times the size of Cyrodiil, is it that big?

I dunno, the server im on seems to have died down. I think most people are onto the expansion areas, which suggests that there arent many new players, as its impossible to find level 30-39 battlegrounds some nights even with cross-server matches.

Maaaaf he meant worldsize. And it's pretty big, yeah. I think it might be bigger than 400% of cyrodiil.

And 4*cyrodiil feels so big to me.  I have never played an MMORPG though.

Can someone help me? I've installed WoW and BC and made a Mage character and I've done like 8 quests and leveled my guy to level 8 but I'm bored, I've only seen one person. So does it stay like this for awhile or does it start opening up a lot once I've done more quests?

It seems quite large when you start the game due to your movement speed. You earn mounts once you hit level 40 and they greatly reduce travel times.

LVL 40 mount = 60% ground speed increase
LVL 60 mount = 100 % ground speed increase
LVL 70 flying mount = 60% flight speed increase/60% ground speed increase
LVL 70 Epic flying mount = 280% flight speed increase/100% ground speed increase

You can only use flying mounts in Burning Crusade zones, however there are gryphon 'taxis' you can hire to travel from location to location. The flight paths are discovered and quite often you will find that many of the zones don't connect via flight path. In some cases you will have to fly to a harbor, and take a boat. Or take an underground tram.

This is one aspect of WoW that often bothered me, but they have definitely improved the flight paths since launch. It can still be a pain to get around as a low-level character, though.

On a server that's been up for a long time the starting areas are usually pretty empty as there aren't a lot of new people joining the server and you hit level 10 and leave the starting area in an afternoon.  You'll start to see more shortly.

On most new servers there are usually quit a few people in the lower level zones.  It's a much better environment to level in.

Right now I'm lv55, and I have 375g.  I have so much mithril ore in the bank that I could have 450g by tomorrow, but I'm trying to do the right thing and use it for blacksmithing. Sadly the big money items require items I simply can't find. Where the fuck is BREATH OF WIND? I've searched Tanaris, Arathi, and the other places it's supposed to drop but it never does. I need it to make Phantom Blades, which can go for like 50g.

Breath of Wind if a low percentage drop from air elementals.  It's a pain in the ass to get.

The economy on Muradin is so fucked on horde side. Level 20 pants at AH for 4-11 gold. This is a NORMAL PRICE. Ive been depending on luck at AH, luck of drops, and BG gear to get buy :(

That's the complete opposite of my server, where the economy is pretty low. Just yesterday I sold 20 gold bars for 10g, finally; I waited months for the demand to reach that price lol (before it was like 5g wtf)

Yea I'm going to head back to Tanaris today and look for some again. I'm sure as hell not spending 10g to buy one

All the biggest Horde guilds left to some other server, so most low level players are scarce and spend most of their time fleecing other players out of pure need.

+8%

It doesn't stack with Riding Crop, which is a +10% mount speed trinket. Requires lvl 69, though.

+8% isnt bad actually, but not something I seemed to notice. Does it stack with abilities? I will be using Blazing Speed talent in a few levels to annoy people in WSG.

I headed to Tanaris looking for those Gust Vortex mobs, and found like 4 in an hour wtf. At least I got 1 Breath of Wind.
