How many rpgs do you play Cheebs, because for the past year or two, most console and pc rpgs have gone and done their own thing. Gameplay has evolved; when it comes to console rpgs, all of them aren't Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy me too games like they were in the 32 bit era. Gameplay has much variety, more so than any other long standing genre at this point. From Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter to Knights of the Old Republic; from Final Fantasy XII to Valkyrie Profile 2; Fable to SMT Nocturne; Oblivion to Persona 3. I could go on and on.
Molyneux is a hack, he doesn't deserve an opinion on rpgs at this point. The last generation, rgps have evolved so much in terms of gameplay that it is ridiculous. Only non rpg fans who barely know the genre say they're all cookie cutter. FPS' for the most part use a cookie cutter gameplay formula, as do sports games, racing games, fighting games;etc. but rpgs, for the past decade have been pushing the gameplay envelope ten fold, and almost every single rpg you pick up in this day doesn't strive to copy someone else. In this industry, that should be fucking admirable.
The only thing rpgs need to work on now are their stories, so that every rpg isn't about people saving the world, but there have been advancements.
