whats the verdict demi?  and how's the framerate

Demi says:
Haha
Demi says:
This game is pretty tight
Demi says:
Its like Max Payne but more interactive
TVC says:
Good stuff?
Demi says:
Doesnt look that good
Demi says:
No framerate issues
Demi says:
But its basically Max Payne
Demi says:
Everything you bump into, like tables or ledges and shit, he slides on them in John Woo style
Demi says:
and you can slow down time while doing this (Tequila Time)
Demi says:
and from there you can shoot these various glowing things that fall down and kill people, earning you Style Points
Demi says:
There's one part where you slide down a long handrail and time slows down, whre you can shoot various signs and stuff to crush people
Demi says:
And after that, theres another where he runs up a handrail instead
Demi says:
then you hop onto a rollcart and fly around blasting people
Demi says:
new feature
Demi says:
Standoff
Demi says:
Ok this is pretty cool and simple
Demi says:
Its kinda like Virtua Cop
TVC says:
How long is the demo
Demi says:
Still playing it stfu
Demi says:
Let me explain it
Demi says:
You got various guys against you
Demi says:
So what a Standoff is, puts you against one of the guys
Demi says:
and you have to - shoot him, obviously
Demi says:
you use the left trigger to move a crosshair on him, or you can shoot a "glint" which is something desctructible like a gas tank or something
Demi says:
they shoot back, but you can see the bullets, like Matrix
Demi says:
you use the right stick to dodge
Demi says:
kill one guy, it switches over to the next and repeat
Demi says:
new ability - Precision Aim
Demi says:
you can use 4 "Tequila Bombs"
Demi says:
One is Health
Demi says:
Gives you a little jolt of health, like the Painkillers from Max
Demi says:
I just got Precision Aiming
Demi says:
This lets me zoom in on people and target certain parts, and i can see bullets like the Matrix so i can dodge them
TVC says:
People seem to think that MP2 was better
Demi says:
Ah, end of demo
Demi says:
Oh no wait
TVC says:
Holy shit, looking at this screen Max Payne 2 LOOKS better
Demi says:
I unlocked another Tequila Bomb
Demi says:
Spin Barrage
Demi says:
And a harder difficulty
TVC says:
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2007/191/928104_20070711_screen009.jpg
Demi says:
It might look better
Demi says:
But it plays better
TVC says:
and play better
Demi says:
Pretty sure it doesnt
Demi says:
Spin Barrage is rough
Demi says:
It basically lets you repeatedly fire, and it doesnt waste your ammo
Demi says:
This game is ruff, gonna rent it fo sho

<EviLoreTablet> "The gameplay is pretty weak IMO, just a mindless shooter where all you do is aim and pull the trigger"   <----stranglehold impressions
<EviLoreTablet> lol?
<Y2Kev> lol
<Y2Kev> he's right, but for the wrong reason
<Y2Kev> all shooters follow that same mechanic
<EviLoreTablet> nevermind that this is the HARD BOILED VIDEOGAME

This game rox.  Downloaded this and Eternal Sonata, but I played the latter for like two minutes before getting bored.  This game rocks though.

I managed to get this for $5, so no matter how shitty it is, I win.

I should explain I think.

He's right that the gunplay is kinda poor. Enemies just drop. Very little impact because the sound balance is screwed up majorly. But to say all you do is point and shoot...that's...that's every shooter. Well, except maybe Bioshock.

If it's inferior to Max Payne 2, I am out.  Heck, it doesn't even look much better than Max Payne 2.

it doesn't have anything to do with max payne.  you have to move fast (especially on hard difficulty) and manage your specials and watch your meters for health and slo-mo and you really start to improve after a while.  it's a definite rental and the graphics don't look bad when you consider how much is going on.

Yeah, except for sharing the same basic mechanics and same style of gameplay this game isn't like Max Payne at all. I mean Max Payne is Italian and Chow Yun-Fat is Asian, completely different.

...have you played the demo?

the way you play this is very different than max payne.  it's like an arcadey max payne.  in max payne you constantly autosave, keep track of your health, grenades, etc.  this is a lot easier and focuses WAY more on letting you try to be a badass.

The game is definitely worse than MP2.  The best part about it is seeing everything get blown apart and crumble nicely.  Aside from that, the game is zzzzzzzz.

play it on casual, that unlocks the hard difficulty which gives you an extra ability and makes the challenge a lot better.  it's extremely arcadey and there's basically 0 enemy AI but it's still worth a rental I'd think.

spent some more time w/ it and unlocked a few more tequila bombs...  it's actually pretty decent the 2nd run through.  still seems like a non-buy, but definitely a rental.  the bullet in the face shit is hilarious, i'm actually really enjoying that feature.  controls and animation are a bit stiff though, but definitely better than "the darkness"

so guys, which is better: stranglehold or dead to rights (the first one since that's the only one i've played)?

yes, you have to base this on what you've played so far :p
