I've never been a big sports fan but I want to start get into it but it's so overwhelming. I mean, everyone knows all of these player stats except me!

Give me some tips!

I can't watch a baseball game without falling asleep.

I like watching football sometimes, I like watching basketball but casually, soccor, tennis..especially women's.

What should I do? I'm not a real man because I don't follow sports! :'( :'(

You don't have to like every sport! My boyfriend is the hugest sports buff I know. He can name every player that has ever played for the Florida Gators. He can name every person that was on the Reds team when they won Series? (whatever the super bowl thing for baseball is) back like 15 years ago. But, I know pleny of sports people who only know the stats on thier team. Be it football or baseball or whatever. Pick a team you like, college football is the best way to start, it's the best sport out there. Just watch the games, turn on espn news every now and then, read the sports section in the newspaper. You will start to pick up on it.

Basketball is really easy to get into. Once the season starts you should check out some games; maybe go to one. You live in Texas, so you've got two great teams in state (San Antonio and Dallas).

With football, it can be kinda boring to someone who doesn't understand what's going on. There are a lot of rules so it's not like you can memorize them all, but having a basic idea of some things like the downs would help. So you'll know what 3rd and 5 means, for instance.

Yea, basketball blows. College isn't too bad. Or maybe it's just because the Knicks suck.

Football definitely is great to watch once you learn some of the basic rules (which I swear to God, learned from playing Madden when I was little).

I love baseball, but I can see why not a lot of people like it. I've played it my whole life and I could talk about it all day. And nothing compares to playoff baseball. Not even the NCAA Tournament.

Tennis is also pretty damn exciting to watch. Fucking Federer is too good though... I don't really watch women's tennis; yea, some of them are pretty hot, but it gets boring after a few minutes. Men's tennis is just played at such a higher level.

whiteacid's advice is pretty good, if you want to get into a sport, find a team you like and start following it. ESPN, the sports section - you'll start picking up some stuff.

Get emotionally attached to a team. Suggestions...

A team with your favorite color, a an oldie but goodie...a local team that you can express local pride from etc

Once you find a team your absolutely crazy about, watching and paying attention to each individual player comes naturally.
