is there an online pc game that meets these requirements?

for example, back when i played warcraft iii, there was a map called dbz tribute. every character started out pretty weak, each had its own strengths and weakness depending on the other characters on play and the time of the game. it was about knowing where to be and what to do, which you learned as you played it.

i don't like mmorpgs 'cause the dude who has 192849 hours available can kick my ass since he spends all the day on it. dbz tribute was pretty awesome, but the community was small and the map wasn't updated as often as it should've been, so i'd like a game that doesn't fall into those categories since those were enough of a turn off.

you pc gamers are always bragging about the superior platform, time to back that up! and no shooters - i already have battlefield 2, rtses that require me to micro 137482 units - i suck at them - or games that require monthly fee - i'm poor.

WC3 has a few other UMS like that that are way better than DBZ. Hero Wars is good, or DOTA if you have The Frozen Throne. DOTA has a huge following, too. It's become a whole new game.

However, if you're looking to stray from WC3, then I have no other recommendations. Sorry :(

As Dota Allstars gameplay revolves around the use of individual heroes, it does not require one to focus on resource management and base-building, which is common in traditional Real-time strategy games. Instead, a player's attention is focused on their hero, and their time is devoted to gaining experience by killing weak enemy units, gaining gold by getting the killing blow on these units(called "last-hitting"), and skirmishing with the opposing heroes.

Plain old CS and DOD have Warcraft mods for them that play kind of like that. (You start out weak and as you make kills you can gain skills/special powers and weapons).

hero wars wasn't very popular, and i don't like dota. wciii ate a lot of time too, which was another reason that help me decide to stop playing it.

as for counter strike, i remember seeing quite a few mods. there was one, earth special forces iirc, which was also dbz related with a 3rd person view. it was awesome, i think i'll give it a try. i wonder if it has a lot of players tho.

i've never played dod, so i'm not sure what to expect or how popular its mods or even the main game are.

thanks dudes, any more suggestions are welcome.
