I wouldn't say he sold out - he hasn't started pop, lock, and droppin it. But he definitely fell off, hard. Maybe doing another Blackstar album could wake him up, but even that seems unlikely. He'd probably be "singing" over it.

He's too ambitious, and not as talented as he wants to be. He needs to stop shunning what he's good at (RAPPING) and start refraining from this on-the-side crap. You see the dude's face in that trailer? It's like he's channeling Do The Right Thing era Martin Lawrence, cracked out and all

Gondry and Black is a win in my book. That is, as long as Gondry can reign in Black, who's notorious for ruining movies that's he the lead in which are not called School of Rock.

I suppose we have different definitions of "selling out". To me Cube is far more of a "sell out" than Mos for instance. Mos's branch out seemed quite natural and progressive. Mos has always experimented with his music for instance; now he does it far too much, to poor results. With the acting...eh. Cube on the other hand attempted to portray himself as some gangsta for years (he never was) and became a militant NOI Muslim fighting the evil white man...now he's doing kids movies. That's not "growing up", that's selling out.

I will say this: there was a time when Cube was perhaps the most feared MC in the game. Not the best, not the most talented...but damn when Cube went at it all out he was scary.

I have no problem with people doing "fun" movies. But when you build your entire career on your alleged "gangsta" affiliations, OG status, etc...I can't take you seriously when you're doing fart scenes in family films.

They were amazing. They've been declining for years and their last couple of flicks were barely passable. I've got no reason to be excited about anything coming from them and they are from the Church of Raimi, no less! Gondry is talent churning out the goods in his prime.

Meh, so they've had a couple of botched projects. You've gotta remember, they weren't supposed to direct Intolerable Cruelty or The Ladykillers, they just ended up getting roped into those projects after they were initially signed up just to write them.

Cut them some slack, man...everything we've seen so far for No Country for Old Men indicates that it is good.

I'm not saying No Country for Old Men will be good or bad, but based on the current track record, I've got no indication that it'll be a must see. Say what you want about Gondry, but at least he's exciting and he's brought a cool concept to the table with an interesting pair. Like previously said, if he reigns in Black, it could be great.

The book is very, very strong. Even if it's just competently directed, if they keep to the material, they will have a good movie.

I like Gondry, and I think he's made great strides as a director since Human Nature, but I dunno about Black, he's such a one-note actor.

PD you realize Mos Def has been acting for a few years right? He has been a lead actor in a few movies I have seen over the past 2-3 years. He was good in 16 Blocks and was one of the few good parts of the very meh Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He is in 8 films currently coming out lol.

If you wanted him to stick to rapping you are 2 years too late.

No reason to get excited over this movie until I hear some reviews. Science of Sleep bit, and this one was also written by Gondry. His good movie, Eternal Sunshine, was scripted by Awesoma Charlie Kaufmann. It is most certainly presumptuous to declare this best film of the year.

It will at least look good, and the movie recreations will be amusing, especially with Jack Black. I'm sure it will be worth viewing if even just for that and visuals. The plot does sound kind of hokey, and someone on GAF said it better than I could--It sounds like something related to Goodbye Lenin.

Now that I think about it...I can't think of many "likable" comedic black actors. There really isn't a Jack Black. Anthony Anderson? He's cool but I prefer him in to be "in the back of the bus" so to speak, at least with respect to films

Oh, I'll definitely see it. I was there for Science of Sleep on opening day, so I'll be there for this, too.

This looks like the kind of movie only cineophiles will like. The whole part about "their movies have heart" or whatever had me gagging. I'm sure cinema majors will eat this shit up, but meh.

I saw Science of Sleep but not Eternal Sunshine. I'm trying my best to make it through life without seeing that one.

Eternal Sunshine was much better than Science of Sleep, as Kaufman was able to reel Gondry back in from the depths of his desire to be weird for the sake of being weird.
