Willco, do you have any suggestions?
« on: August 10, 2007, 06:44:42 PM »
I pre ordered and paid Persona 3 in full at my gamestop, right? Well, as you know, it got delayed. Now I'm off for college in another state next week, and I was worried about not getting the game I paid in full. I always pre order SMT titles, and I have since DDS, and I always make sure to reserve Atlus games, so I know that my chances of getting the game are slim without pre ordering. But it's pretty hard to pre order if you aren't there to make the transaction, and Florida is kinda...uh..you know, far away.

So I asked my gamestop manager if it was possible for him to transfer my pre order from that store to another store. He said that was impossible (lame) and that I would have to cancel and pre order it at the other shop, as expected. He did, however, say that he would be obliged to finish off my game's transaction (since I paid in full and all) and ship it to me via overnight shipping once it got into the store; a sort of treat for being such a good customer and pal. So I said sure.

He calls me today and says he found out he is unable to do this (something about against company policy) and that he suggest I cancel my pre order and try to get the game at the gamestop where I'm moving.

I'm leaving on the 14th via car and I probably won't be there until late on the 15th or the 16th at most. Who knows? What I'm worried about though, is that I won't be able to score my game on day one. This wouldn't be an issue if gamestop would be give my money back for the reserve, but they will only give credit back if you've paid for something, so the only place I can use the credit at is a gamestop or eb.

It kinda makes no sense to pay twice for a game. So what to do? Order online and pay the same game twice or just cross my fingers and hope that gamestop has the game when I get there?

Himuro, I'm actually in a similar situation as you over Persona 3, although I only paid $14.16 on it (due to trade-ins).  The problem is I gotta move sooner than I expected, and I won't be able to make it to an EB until Friday next week (to an EB near my college).  So, I'm going to try canceling my preorder (still have the receipt) and just put the credit on my EB Edge card.  I am going to hope one of two EB/Gamestop's near my college/apartment will have it (one should, because they usually get numerous copies of RPGs in, due to a lot of preorders).

Or else, I'm thinking of just ordering Persona 3 online, then use the credit I get back at EB on something else.  Getting credit isn't a problem for me, because I'm might get Wild Arms 5 on release, and there's a guarantee I'll preorder Growlanser: Heritage of War.

EB does NOT transfer preorders, from what I've known over the years.

Yeah, this really sucks and I feel pretty upset about this.  There just isn't much I can do than hope I get it. :(

Could you have a relative pick up the game for you and then mail it to your new place in Florida?

I can't have another family member pick up my game, because my Mom had surgery over a month ago and on the day Persona 3 comes out, she has something from the surgery removed, which will be very painful.  That's part of the reason I have to leave early.

That was directed at Himuro.

I hope your mom is alright, though.

I figured, but I was about to say what I just did in my original post too, because I thought about that option.

Yeah, you can't transfer a pre-order or anything.  Technically, any GameStop is obliged to transfer a game for you - even if a store across the country is the only one that has it.  It's a relatively easy process, but it's just extra paperwork that keyholders don't like to do.

Does anyone know what time EB usually receives shipments by on Wed.  Well, if EB receives the stuff by noon, I can pick it up.  If it's after that, then I can't.

Depends on their carrier; UPS delivers our crap like clockwork at 11 AM.  We actually sometimes get priority overnight shipments the day before or before the store opens on Wednesday due to our proximity to Best Buy and Target.  Stores not located near big box competition will have to wait, usually.
