What about American Beauty?
American Beauty is the shittiest piece of shit that ever shat out of a shitty butt. I can't even begin to articulate how much I hate that overrated piece of saccharine fortune cookie hypocritical irrational nonsensical overloaded heavy-handed GODDAMNED MOTHERFUCKING PIECE OF CRAP!
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU BROUGHT IT UP! AAAAAAH!! NEVER MAKE A FILM AGAIN!!!!
Amen.
Bourne might be the best American film trilogy, but I think that says more about film trilogies than it does about Bourne. I haven't seen Supremacy, but I don't think that would change my opinion on the piece linked in the OP.
It really seems to be stretching on a number of points, like the praise of the actors cast as G Men. David Straithern and Brian Cox both basically played the generic Ed Harris, Guy In The Control Room Telling His Underlings To Work Harder role. Most of the bad guy HQ scenes are right out of Enemy of the State.
There are a lot of parallels, and I appreciate that they were more subtle than the repetition of key lines in Batman Begins, but I read it as them just copying the successful formula of the first movie, with a couple "Hey, remember this?" visual cues. Is having emotionless government killers waiting for a call even a reference? I figured it was just a class of bad guy that they created that would be a recurring threat in all three movies, a la stormtrooper, agent, or uruk hai.
I guess what I'm saying is that the Bourne films are really fun chase movies, but I'd feel weird giving them a Best Something Ever rank in the canon.
