I've used melatonin before. It works, but I've found that it alters my sleep patterns and makes me sleep more than I like. I am usually a 1AM to 630AM sleeper, and effective doses of melatonin put me out for 8 hours ish. It's good for "resetting" my sleep schedule, but not as a general purpose sleeping pill. I will sleep through my alarm.
