It seems to me that it would actually be a pretty good first rpg. But that's not my word. Some reviews have siad it would.

I dunno. These days, I can't really suggest anything that would would make a good first rpg since most of the rpgs I play. I'd suggest renting P3 first, to see if you like it.

bud, dragon quest 8 is shit, don't waste your time/money with it. try chrono trigger if you don't mind old games. if you want something current gen try tales of the abyss.

you could always give chrono trigger a try either way. you can dl it pretty much anywhere and the file is pretty small. it does take a while for it to pick up, since it takes a while for you to travel between times at will, so you may not like it at first.

imo ffvii starts out better, but as the game progresses it only gets worse.

tales of the abyss is pretty awesome, better than ct and ffvii.

tales of the abyss is a ps2 rpg, it's noob friendly and it's awesome, best ps2 rpg. you should give it a try. the only other noob friendly ps2 rpgs i can think of are ffx and kingdom hearts. i recommend tota over both of them, and kingdom hearts over ffx.

Cosigned. a 1000 times. Playing DQ8 is as exciting as watching ice melt. I don't know how DQ8 could get such high scores and Blue Dragon could get such mediocre scores when BD is just like DQ8 with a slightly better story and much better graphics.

Agree with you also that SOA is good stuff even though the graphics are outdated now. I wish they would do a PSP remade or something. Remades of games like SOA actually make sense since many people haven't tried it.

uh, DQVIII was a bit too simple and bland, but then again it's always been part of the series' style

it's going to be better than Blue Dragon in the end, although BD is also good... DQ has more panache and overall compelling gameplay IMO

you guys are psychos, yes DQVII was much longer/deeper, but DQVIII is still a very high quality experience, in spite of it feeling too much like a Disney cartoon at times

DQ8 is shallow as fuck. The lack of a class/job system system kills it, as do the tiny, simple dungeons.

But the overworld and sense of adventure and exploration makes up for that. I liked walking around the map and finding 99x things I wouldn't encounter if I only followed the main story.

Plus, the game has awesome sidequests.

I just fuse demons that have the stuff I need/want. didnt really care for looks, I treat them like tools.
