I can't play the demo while I'm at work so I went to the GAF thread to vicariously relive the best half-hour of my life. Somebody was a dick and revealed something about the setting that's not immediately apparent.

Maybe they changed this since the 2004 announcement, I dunno. I hope it's not true. But whether it's true or not true my entire playthrough of the game will now be colored by this piece of data.

I feel you.  Usually I'm one of those that laugh at the necessity of plot for a videogame.  But Bioshock is one of those games where the mysterious atmosphere is just as important as the fighting and shooting.   It sure would suck for any of that mysteriousness to be destroyed by a spoiler.  I hope that guy was wrong and if not, he should be banned.

According to the GAF poster, this info was revealed in 2004 alongside the game. But I was not aware of it. This info is certainly not part of their current screenshots, artwork, or ad campaign.

The game concept has changed significantly since the original 2004 announcement. Somehow, I (and others) just never heard about these original, now obsolete plot details.
