Lets talk about Sega's best game
« on: August 15, 2007, 07:57:39 PM »
Talk as in argue, that is. What do you think is Sega's greatest title? Im on a major Sega tip ATM, having just completed Yakuza and playing through Shenmue.

Major contenders for my favourite Sega game (no clear winner for me yet):

Sonic series on Mega Drive/ Genesis - mainly for nostalgia reasons
F-Zero GX - best racer of the last 7 years or so
Outrun 2006 - almost as good as F-Zero, some will say its better
Rez - just plain cool
Shenmue - in its day wouldve been friggn amazing, still looks better than most PS2 games
Wonder Boy III - not 100% if this was developed by Sega but is the best game for the SMS

When I was 13 or 14, I used to hang out at this used video game store that also dealt in imports. The first time I saw Sonic Adventure, it was a total revelation. We were still tooling around with N64 at the time and here was Sega with the real next gen shit. I'm not sure if it would hold up today as well as it does in memory, but it really placemarked that generation in the same way Mario 64 said, "Forget SNES!" and in a way no other launch title has really done since.

I see no Shadow the Hedgehog.

Sega's best game? Hmm. I guess one of the Virtua Fighters would be up there. Sonic 3, Skies of Arcadia, maybe Landstalker?

Is Rez worth $35 used?

I'll probably go for one of their more arcadey titles or actual arcade titles.  Sega seems to do better when they stick to action.

Daytona, Scud Racer, Sega Rally,  VF, Panzer Dragoon, Golden Axe were some of my favorites.  It's hard to pick the one great game because Sega made so many different types of games.  Oh yeah, SOA is great too but it probably won't rank as high in its genre as some of the other Sega games.

Golden Axe was fun as a kid.  I wouldn't argue with someone that thinks it sucks now.   A lot of "classics" from that era would suck if you compare them to today's games.
