I saw it last week. The movie is fucking awesome. It's like a really really raunchy/dirty apataw movie.

Another awesome Apatow group movie.  Really good stuff.

Gets a bit slow in the middle though.

I loved mean girls but don't get the comparison. Other than both being high school comedies this has NOTHING in common with mean girls. Superbad is a  (VERY) raunchy sex comedy.

It was good. The weakest of the three Apatow flicks (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and this) but still a good solid B+. I wish Seth & Evan's story was bigger and McLovins' and the cops story was smaller.

I dont think the movie was weaker, it just wasnt as "real" as the other two. I laughed the same for all of them, but this was more slap-stick and far fetched than the other two.

i thought the dialog was real, i mean i've been cursing like a sailor since i was in fourth grade so i was glad to hear lots of "fucks" and no "fudge!" or anything like that. i guess the thing that bothered me the most in the end was

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the reason Jules didn't get with Seth at the party - because he was drunk, not because he's a fucking fat 35 year old playing a high school student? and she STILL went off with him the next day? i mean i know there are cool girls somewhere who dig personalities more than looks but they don't look like Jules, i'm sure.

the mclovin bits were really stupid. this movie couldn't decide if it was screwball john hughes fare or angsty teenaged john hughes fare. C+ total.

however, they nailed the dialogue -- jonah and evan talked the way we did in high school. every other word was "fuck," and we talked oh-so-big about sex and women despite knowing oh-so-little :lol

i've had nights that were SOMEWHAT along the lines of what Seth & Evan went through - but not McLovin, that was pure fantasy.

yeah, that's why the movie bugged me -- it was totally schizophrenic. the awkward teenaged partying and fumbled sexual encounters are painfully familiar, but the wacky cop shenanigans (and two loser duders hooking up with the school hotties) are far more, say, weird science than sixteen candles. it was also a pretty misogynistic movie overall, and i don't mean the dialogue.

still, the "did they or didn't they" CLIMAX (lol) was really, really well executed. i seriously about died laughing at how well movie left it to your imagination. :lol :lol

Saw this at a preview a couple weeks ago.

The two plotlines were almost like different movies.  It was almost TV-ish the way they barely intersected.

The plots followed the same theme, of high school loser angst/bravado, but Fogel gets a couple guardian angels who empathize with him, while Evan and Seth go from one bad situation to the next.  I think the Seth and Evan plot is better, just because schadenfreude makes things funnier.

(That's one of the reasons Adam Sandler has been so awful the last decade.  His movies are all about him being awesome and showing the squares what for.  Mary Sues kill comedy.)

A little off topic, but FUCK BALLS OF FURY.  I swear, I see this preview with EVERY movie I've seen in the last few months, and it looks like total horseshit.  It's just painful sitting through now.

And I feel bad for Will Arnett, having to be in a seemingly shitty SNL-type movie.  :(

Suprised? Mean Girls is a fantastic movie any way you look at it. Lohan's one and only really 100% solid film that will be remembered in the years that come. A teen high school comedy that got the 00's down VERY well in that John Hughesy sort of way.

Superbad may have been a whole point higher if I didn't see Knocked Up two months ago. Knocked Up really showed the apatow "kids" at the highest form yet of Freaks & Geeks, Undeclared, 40YO Virgin..etc. Superbad while great was a little bit of a step down.

Looking at the absurd amount of Apatow-verse films coming over the next 2 years I fear there may come the unwanted overkill and over-saturation of these guys.  :-\

Though I am totally hyped and on board for The Pineapple Express. James Franco returns to Apatow land after hitting it big with Spidey. :bow

Why would you think that? Mean Girls was a VERY well recieved movie critically and got it's box office success from word of mouth mostly (this is pre-OMG TABLOID FAAAMOUUUS lohan remember)

I mean come on, it is written by Tina Fey. She is the last person I would expect to write a teenage girls fluff type of affair.

Just came back from it

Never would I have dreamed that a movie could top "Knocked Up" as far as a comedy this year. Superbad just blew me away, I was dieing from start to finish. Honestly, there was NEVER a moment in this movie where I felt is was dragging and it had me laughing nonstop. I haven't laughed that hard at the movies ever.

McLovin is officially the best movie character ever made.

You think Superbad was better than Knocked Up? That is just as bad as hating Godfather II.  :-\

Superbad was VERY funny but very much a juvenile film compared to Knocked up.

:(

Now, I'm not saying Knocked Up is subpar, I LOVED IT. But the carelessness of Superbad and Michael Cera just put it over the top for me. All the characters in the movie just fucken rocked. Maybe its just me coming out of the movie so I've still got that laughing high but I really really liked Superbad. I'm also gauging this on how much I laughed, Knocked Up had me rolling at certain parts, then you had sort of the downtime. Superbad, I was literally laughing the whole time.

Both movies are almost neck and neck but its definitely Superbad for me

Well judging purely on laughs is sort of odd basing it on both films. Superbad, yeah is a straight up comedy and enjoyment is entirely based on the humor. Knocked Up is very much more a rom-com mixed in with guy-comedy stuff. There are a lot of parts of KU just not meant to be funny and purely for the romance storyline. Such as the "sappy" little musical ending of the parents and harold ramis playing with the baby.

if it wasn't for the brilliantly conceived and well-acted "sleepover" climax, i probably woulda written the main thread of the movie off, too. how the fuck would a fatass like seth hook up with nancy fucking drew? not at any school i ever been to!

you'd think rogen and his co-writer would realize that a little more poignancy woulda gone further than the ending of revenge of the nerds, especially when the seth/evan arc has a very realistic high school vibe.

I thought the same thing when they were both riddin the escalator down to sexy town. I guess Apatow really wanted a feel good type of moment where the friends really split their ways (cause thats what happens after High School right?, friends get more heavily involved in relationships yadda yadda TIES ARE BROKEN).

The sleepover scene ending with "Your mom has big tits!" was like a pallete cleanser for the sappy friend scene.

Actually, I thought the movie was rather okay. It's just some parts irked me, like that Auditorium confession scene.

"RAISE YOU'RE HAND IF YOU'VE COMMITTED MURDER"
