Haven't seen the movie but I remember watching my friend playing the 1st level of the game on the Xbox.  It looked pretty cool but I never got around to trying it myself.

One of the very few movies that have legitimately scared me, not frightened, not "a little shooken up", full on terrified me.

That film alone, nevertheless the other quality films he made, gave John Carpenter enough brownie points to give him credibility as a great director of genre films, even after his rather lengthy post 80's slump.

I saw it in the theater back in 1982.  What an awesome flick.  I remember nearly shitting myself when

MacReady gave the blood test and the fucking blood screamed and jumped out of the petri dish

And Rob Bottin is a genius.  Watch the documentary on the DVD, that dude put himself through physical hell to get those effects done, not like those pussies nowadays with their CGI and their pointing and clicking.

If Kurt Russell never makes another movie, he's a solid modern-day Hollwood legend for this, Escape From New York, Tombstone, and BTILC alone.  Also, if you get the chance, check out the Elvis TV movie he starred in back in 1979 - it was directed by John Carpenter, and is really theatrical quality.  Russell gives a knockout performance.

I have The Thing for Xbox, but I never finished it.  I got to this one part and was low on health and kept dying five seconds in, over and over and over.  I never went back, but I intend to someday.  It had a nice atmosphere.

Yeah, the 1st level did a great job of showing the harsh environment.  Didn't "Solid Snake" do the voice acting for this game too?  Is the game a continuation of the story in the movie?

I think its a continuation. I cant really remember.

I played thru this back when it released for XBOX...i love the shooting gallery like scenes where you and your teammates sit there and blast wave after wave of spider thingy running at you.

I need to play thru this again.
