No, not the Chris Farley/David Space comedy from a decade ago.....the New Zealand horror film about flesh-eating zombie sheep (trailer:
)
It got fairly limited US distribution from what I can tell, but a local theatre is doing a couple midnight showings this weekend.
Despite being the movie I was most hyped to see this month, it was probably the least impressive. Maybe it's because I was tired from working all day, maybe it's because the theatre was freezing.....but I was wanting it to end after about an hour. It's a film that blows all its tricks in the first 45 minutes, then just repeats them for another 45.
I was expecting a somewhat suspenseful, scary, chase-oriented horror flick.....but for the most part it's just a bunch of goofy gore/splatter crap like Evil Dead 2. The only shocks come from the explicitness, but there's still some fun in all the brutality. Even some of the bad style choices can't take away from the coolness of seeing sheep fuck up some suckers, and all the animatronics look great. It's very refreshing to see a movie without CG monsters. The humor falls flat more often than it succeeds (corny jokes about hippies and bestiality and farting), but the jokes that work are pretty good.
Conclusion: Don't buy it sight-unseen, but definitely not an awful rental. I'm hoping it will be topped by Troma Films' similarly themed Poultrygeist (
