I lived in London when season 2 episodes were coming out for Blackadder. I WAS THERE, MAN! (you have to do a dirty hippy line-reading)
It's a pretty standard three-camera sitcom in terms of how it's filmed and how the plots and jokes are structured, but if you can get past that, it's a lot of fun.
There are basically four character types:
1) Rowan Atkinson, who is horribly cruel, like a smart version of Master Shake.
2) Idiots whom he can abuse, especially Tony Robinson and Tim McInnerny. Sort of a collective Meatwad.
3) Powerful idiots who can screw up his situation with silly whims. Dr. House and Miranda Richardson.
4) Guest stars as needed for plot purposes, who act like they're in a pantomime.
My recommendation shouldn't carry much weight, though. I like Are You Being Served.
