Turns out watching classic british science fiction all day isn't going to work out.

INLAND EMPIRE (might want to save this until I am feeling better because I want to blog it)

The Prestige
Labyrinth
Taxi Driver
The Shield S3
Hot Fuzz (this would be my third attempt)

I love Hot Fuzz but its kinda that '20 minutes too long' feeling to it.

Yea, it's definitely not as perfectly-paced as Shaun. The payoff at the end is so damn great, though.

i haven't seen that many woody allen movies but anything else was a pretty nice movie.

TVC, considering your current pain, I would go with Hard Boiled, simply because it probably requires the least brain power.

It does take a little while longer to be as fun as Shaun. I think the pace picks up greatly once the 1st murder occured.

Due to your pain Labyrinth is by far the best choice. It's light, fluffy, has that Jim Henson quirky warm & fuzzy directing, and 100% 80's awesome. You don't need a brain to enjoy it.
