yeah, i felt that was unnecessary, like the narration in blade runner. nothing wrong with folks not getting something the first time, frankly. still, i really really liked the movie, but i wouldn't say no to a "directors cut" sans flashbacks.

Not perfect, but very very good.I remember The Following involving a really convoluted scheme (I know, I know, but I'm talking about the actual criminal enterprise, not the narrative), and not building tension as well as Memento or The Prestige. Hell, if I can't remember the basic plot outline of a neo-noir (hello, Mulholland Falls) it's a safe bet that it didn't get me to care.
