. . .but then they through in that bit of last minute exposition, complete with flashbacks, to explain what happened for the dumb people watching the movie.

6/10.  Nolan's best besides Memento.

yeah, i felt that was unnecessary, like the narration in blade runner. nothing wrong with folks not getting something the first time, frankly. still, i really really liked the movie, but i wouldn't say no to a "directors cut" sans flashbacks.

What'd you think of Following, TVC?  I think it's just as good as Memento.

It's his first movie.  It's really very good.  Shot in black & white, chronologically jumbled, though the payoff isn't quite as satisfying as Memento's.

Don't you think Return of the Jedi is the strongest of the OT?  Your taste is somewhat suspect.  Following is definitely better than Insomnia, at the very least.  And the story is somewhat more cohesive than Memento's, and deals with the some of the same issues (obsession, for example) except in a minor key.

I dont know it felt kind of boring to me. I'm glad Nolan has progressed to a bigger budget where stuff actually happens in his moves.

you "don't know" -- you have an opinion on a movie and don't know WHY you hold it? did you actually go to college for film studies?

Lots of "stuff actually happens" in Following, too.  I don't know how you could be bored by it, it's a pretty cleverly constructed mystery.  The skewed chronology works really well (I was never confused as to when scenes were taking place in the timeline), and the DVD even came with a nifty feature to watch the movie in chronological order.  It was good stuff, FoC.

Agree.  Not perfect, but very very good.

I remember The Following involving a really convoluted scheme (I know, I know, but I'm talking about the actual criminal enterprise, not the narrative), and not building tension as well as Memento or The Prestige.  Hell, if I can't remember the basic plot outline of a neo-noir (hello, Mulholland Falls) it's a safe bet that it didn't get me to care.
