PSM reviews Lair and Warhawk.
« on: August 21, 2007, 05:52:28 AM »
Lair-5
Warhawk-6.5

Lair probably because...it's Lair.

Warhawk probably because it's like shadowrun and reviewers don't feel it has enough content for the price.

I feel that warhawk is a far better value than shadowrun.

I own shadowrun, but not warhawk yet tho - so we will see.

Did anyone play the Warhawk beta?  How was it?  I'm kind of interested in it, but I feel that none of these FPS games are really worth it right now, since I'm going to end up just playing Halo 3 anyway.

I played the beta for a bit and it was really fun for this type of game - I had some of the best action battles of my life....

I quit playing the beta tho as it had a bad habbit of locking up on me in the worst spots, and i figured i would just save my time for the real full game.

its a 3PS, and its unlike anything i had played before. the vehicles, bases, stationary gun turrest and massive amount of players online along with the physics engine are what really made this stick out for me...

its nothing like battlefield, or battlefront.

What's the big deal w/ Warhawk?  The graphics aren't that great and it plays like a game that should be on the PC, which many Sony fans supposedly hate.  Warhawk is like Socom in that it's just another mediocre game that is gonig to be very popular because there's nothing else like it on the system.

QFT.  Never got the fuss about Socom.  It feels really dumbed down once you've played a tactical shooter on the PC.

the fuss about socom was that it was an awesome online ps2 shooter. who cares if it's not as good as the tactical shooters on pc? i had tons of fun with that game.

mgo was terrible. there's a 99% chance that i'm not even going to play mgo2 now that they're going to release it seperately.

It's terrible only if you've played Splinter Cell multi before.  I think Shane from 1up actually thinks that mgo is better than Splinter Cell.  But I would rather play MGO on the PS2 than Socom because there're far less games like MGO than SOCOM.

Metal gear solid online?

yup

$60 is a fucking lot of money for Warhawk.

I got it for $40 (with the headset) from Toys R Us. I played the beta, so I know what I'm getting myself into.

apparently one problem with warhawk is no bots and it's a multiplayer only game.  at least it allows 4 player split screen.  I think it's a $30 download, maybe $40 for the disk plus headset.

Warhawk is better than a 6.5 IMO. It has kinda wonky ground controls, but it's definitely not bad.

I'm only gonna get it for 40 anyway.

What?  So it's the same price except that you have wait forever for it to download from PSN and you don't get a headset.   ???

I thought Kev said that both are $40.  Even so, why offer it online if it's not cheaper and it comes with less stuff?

No, I don't know how distantmantra got it for 40. The disk is 60, game and headset, and the download is 40.

Toyrsus.com had originally listed the game as being $40. I ordered it from them for $40, and even called customer service, who told me they'll honor the $40 price that they sold it to me at.

PSM has always been a low-quality mag, but it doesn't mean that Lair and Warhawk aren't substandard games; however recently Edge gave an 8 to Warhawk, and the overall Internet impressions have been very positive, so it surely has some good to it

Lair and Heavenly Sword always looked like rentals/bargain bins games to me, and of little interest for anything else other than their advanced graphics and good presentation... saying that got me flamed at OA

I'm not very interested in Sony's first/second party games for September anyway, however October/November with stuff like Ratchet & Clank, Folklore, Uncharted seems much more interesting

I'm interested in Warhawk.  Will there be a demo? I did not play beta.  Hopefully, there will be demo, but knowing Sony.
