Blech, I don't like it. I'm too used to Tony Hawk, the controls are really finger-twisting.

It's very complicated, but it's good fun.  Takes some time to get used to it–it's no casual gamer-friendly skating game like Tony Hawk games are.  But once you start understanding the controls, you start pulling off some really cool shit (I did a nose manual into nollie 360 flip to a 50-50 grind, 360 hardflipped out into a manual and ended.  I felt leet).

Should be fun when it comes out, I'll probably buy it.

This is the one thing I hated about the game, the camera is in a distinguished mentally-challenged fixed level at the bottom of the ground.  It's annoying, you can't see some upcoming rails or obstacles cause the model is right in front of the view.

this game has the worst load times I have ever seen.  I"ve been waiting like 2 minutes.

edit: restarted it.  it was a glitch.

this game is BAD ASS.  tony hawk killer confirmed, murdered, and beaten with a bioshock monkey wrench.  i actually played the demo more than i did bioshock.

:bow :bow :bow :bow skate.

tony hawk himself is going to be playing this more than his own game.

THPS2 was the height of the series. Maybe some people like 3 more, but I was already getting burnt out by then.

SKATE is the new king. I can't wait to try out this demo.

I played it a bit last night.  I don't think I could ever be dedicated enough to this game to not suck total shit at it.  The idea behind the controls is inventive, but I can't seem to wrap my head (and fingers) around individually controlling two different aspects of what is generally seen as a singular element in similar games.

yea it kinda is... really is a steep learning curve, but once you get past the hump it's pure golden.  just spent my lunch hour playing the demo again.  so damn hooked on it.  i think the hardest part about learning the game is throwing out everything you've learned from past action sports games and embracing it as something entirely new.  it was tricky at first, (i still hit X on accident thinking it's a grind button) but i can see it being a superior control method.   just sucks that it's hard to be accurate with analog sticks.

was actually really fun.  the trickiest thing is grinds.  you have to make sure your angle of approach is right and that you jump plus turn fast enough.  I like how every movement you or the board makes is realistic.

yea, the emphasis on timing and board placement is amazing...  didn't really have to think about those things in hawk games.  it was more on the lines of:  "get near the side, hop and hit X"

yeah, what does the B button do?  I keep forgetting.  I also don't like that it can be hard to jump up to a ledge because of the camera but that's something you get used to when playing the game.

I'll give it another shot, but I'm pretty sure I hate it. I would be concerned cause maybe the achievements would be decent enough - but nope, they suck.

B is brake.  yea the camera takes some getting used to, but i'm really diggin' it because the focus is on the board.  it's nice to see an actual shove-it or kickflip in realtime.  they should really allow for people to change the camera though, that would be a sin if they didn't... which i doubt.  but i'm fine with it either way.

This game was hard as shit to play (some of the analog motions are annoying as fuck, reminds me of those Fight Night games... who in EA thought using the right analog for all this stuff was a good gameplay idea?) but for some reason I'm better at this than the Tony Hawk games, heh.

This game (well, demo) is fucking brilliant!!

I love the way that they have incorportated the thumbstick. When even doing a simple ollie it seems as if you really have to set it up right and actually concentrate on actually "doing" the ollie instead of just hitting a button and your stats determining how big you can ollie. Not to mention the numerous trick various that come up because of stance and feet position.

I also like how you need to finish tricks and can't get too greedy. In Tony Hawk if you ever find yourself in trouble all you needed to ever do was hit grind and lord knows there will be something to grind on. Hell, once you get so far in the Hawk series you end up doing 20+ trick combos just to get high enough scores to move on... I can't see this happening with Skate.

Besides the camera angle, which seems like a very poor choice if this is the only one, I can certainly see some challenges getting very frustrating. With so many different tricks relying on what point the thumbstick hits the angle and how far you circle it, I think it's safe to assume there will be some tricks that you are asked to do that you will end up not getting the motion exactly right.

I don't think I've been this geeked over a game coming out since I was a kid...I can't seem to get enough of the demo already.

edit-- Now if we could just get a next gen Dave Mirra!

I got the hang of all the tricks and the camera doesn't bother me too much but it's really hard to do a manual on purpose.  how exactly are you supposed to do it without making the skater duck down for an ollie?

You have to push the stick down gradually.  They say you have to find "the sweet spot," and that's all fine and dandy, but you also have to pay attention that you're not pushing the stick to this "sweet spot" quickly.  Start practicing it by bringind down slowly, then you'll get the hang of it.

My only complaints are the ones that have come up already - the camera and the manuals. I think my 360 controller is fucked up or something, because I land in manuals a lot. And while I was playing Bioshock the other day, my aiming reticule moved up slowly once in a while. :-\

yeah but I can do it if I'm going on flat ground but there's one challenge where you flip into a manual and then flip out and I just can't flip into a manual.  I was worried I was doing something wrong.

you have to play a 360 controller for a few days for it to get right.  the sticks occasionally stuck a little when I first played it but that went away.  the squeaky trigger sound also goes away.  make sure you sand the edge of your d-pad to make it more responsive.
