Vick has apologized and now black sportswriters are ready to justify/excuse his actions and move on! Damn the white man for keeping him down - he just killed dogs, not people!

Quote from: Jeffri Chadiha, ESPN
The man capitalized on whatever coaching he received from his legal team and then did something that was very necessary at this point: He spoke from the heart.

Whatever you think about Vick, you have to give him credit for taking the first step in turning his life around. He finally told the world that he understands the errors of his ways and that he's willing to do his best to start this long road to recovery.

Quote from: Jemele Hill, ESPN Page 2
Why don't sports fans summon this condemnation and outrage when athletes mistreat other humans?

I'm all for getting Vick off the front page, but I call this effect THE O.J. SYNDROME, where black members of the media tend to excuse or irrationally accept the actions of another black person.

Also, his apology is laughably bad:

Quote from: Michael Vick
"For most of my life, I've been a football player, not a public speaker, so, you know, I really don't know, you know, how to say what I really want to say.

"You know, I understand it's -- it's important or not important, you know, as far as what you say but how you say things. So, you know, I take this opportunity just to speak from the heart.

"First, I want to apologize, you know, for all the things that -- that I've done and that I have allowed to happen. I want to personally apologize to commissioner Goodell, Arthur Blank, coach Bobby Petrino, my Atlanta Falcons teammates, you know, for our -- for our previous discussions that we had. And I was not honest and forthright in our discussions, and, you know, I was ashamed and totally disappointed in myself to say the least.

"I want to apologize to all the young kids out there for my immature acts and, you know, what I did was, what I did was very immature so that means I need to grow up.

"I totally ask for forgiveness and understanding as I move forward to bettering Michael Vick the person, not the football player.

"I take full responsibility for my actions. For one second will I sit right here -- not for one second will I sit right here and point the finger and try to blame anybody else for my actions or what I've done.

"I'm totally responsible, and those things just didn't have to happen. I feel like we all make mistakes. It's just I made a mistake in using bad judgment and making bad decisions. And you know, those things, you know, just can't happen.

"Dog fighting is a terrible thing, and I did reject it.

"I'm upset with myself, and, you know, through this situation I found Jesus and asked him for forgiveness and turned my life over to God. And I think that's the right thing to do as of right now.

"Like I said, for this -- for this entire situation I never pointed the finger at anybody else, I accepted responsibility for my actions of what I did and now I have to pay the consequences for it. But in a sense, I think it will help, you know, me as a person. I got a lot to think about in the next year or so.

"I offer my deepest apologies to everybody out in there in the world who was affected by this whole situation. And if I'm more disappointed with myself than anything it's because of all the young people, young kids that I've let down, who look at Michael Vick as a role model. And to have to go through this and put myself in this situation, you know, I hope that every young kid out there in the world watching this interview right now who's been following the case will use me as an example to using better judgment and making better decisions.

"Once again, I offer my deepest apologies to everyone. And I will redeem myself. I have to.

"So I got a lot of down time, a lot of time to think about my actions and what I've done and how to make Michael Vick a better person.

"Thank you.''

Apparently speaking from the heart means saying "you know" about as many times as Quentin Tarrantino in a DVD commentary, he refers to himself in third person three times and he also found Jesus this week.

Also, in Larry Elder's book "The Ten Things You Can't Say In America" there is a chapter entitled "Black people are more racist than white people," in which he talks about a Harvard professor who suggests that a black jury should acquit a black defendant because of past race history in America.

It's a decent book.

Why does Jemele Hill have a job? Two birds with one stone (minority/female hire)?

The issue isn't so much that he killed dogs, but the amount of pain and suffering he caused the animals. For instance, the Humane Society kills dogs all the time. But the animals do not suffer much from the process.

The only things he's sorry about is that he was caught and that his boys turned on him.

And why is it that people always find Jebus? Just once I'd like someone to say, "I realize now that there is no god and that I must think long and hard about the ethical choices i make in the future since I no longer have a book with magical answers." As an aside, don't some people use the Bible to justify treating animals any way they wish. Don't they claim that god put animals on the Earth for man to use as he pleases?

I've heard that some people use it to justify why they can eat animals but some people probably also take it that far.

I do believe that the open of genesis says as much, but it's been a long time since I read that.

It says that we have dominion over the earth and people use that to justify animal abuse when in reality what it says is that we have a responsibility to keep the earth healthy as well as all the living creatures in it.  -100000000 for animal abusers  :(

When is Mike Vick gonna apologize for being an overrated QB?

Also he sounds even more ignorant than Vince Young if that is humanly possible.

It's pretty obvious that he is just saying what he thinks people want to hear (or what his agents/speech writer think people want to hear more likely)

Is that what they're calling criminal behavior these days?
