Why on earth are people getting excited for/anticipating a gussied up version of Habbo Hotel? Seriously, I hope that they make it a sort of optional thing-if I ever get a PS3 the last thing I want is the product of bad social networking/cyberspace experiements of the mid 2000's.

The only worse idea in console gaming is pay-for peer-to-peer multiplayer. Actually, no, that's not worse. Miis are the worst, followed by Habbo HOMEtel, THEN pay-for peer to peer multiplayer.

Sony fans are pretty desperate these days. Sony could literally smear shit on their faces and they would think its a new level of interactive entertainment!

It seems alright.

I just don't have the time or motivation for some Second Life clone.  Plus the art direction is terrriiible.

I like Sony but there are some Sony fans who are totally delusional on the impact of Home.

it's pretty mind boggling that sony thinks this type of software could sell hardware.

I like the helicopter rescue game in the arcade, but the Home beta is pretty damn boring overall.

Some dude on GAF did a list of games comparing 360s and PS3s exclusive games. He actually had the balls to list Home as an exclusive game. I was like HONK HONK

It looks like its going to be optional. Your probably have the choice of booting into XMB or Home.

Sony is nuts if they think Home is in any way, shape or form going to impress people and sell any consoles.  I don't see how they're marketing this as something revolutionary...conceptually it just seems like a more annoying and time-wasting way to access the features in your PS3.

Sony IS nuts.

They did fucking release a console at $599 at launch, which history basically said was a death wish, then proceeded to make the original best package a tard pack six months later by packaging in 20 more gigs and a damn good game with it.

Home might attract nongamers, but not at that fucking price.

The tard pack is actually a better console though if you care about playing PS2 games.  The new 80gib PS3 has more HD space but it doesn't have full compatibility with HD titles.  You can upgrade the HD but you can't upgrade the BC ability.

HOME is probably somehow the only way they could convince the average person to use their PS3 to buy more expensive dvd's.  it promotes using your PS3 as a multimedia device, so maybe sony thinks that that'll make people want to buy blurays for it.

You ARE right on that one. That's the sole reason I'm glad I purchased mine a month before the new SKU was announced, because my PS3 plays fucking PS2 titles wonderfully.

I certanly wouldnt buy a PS3 for @HOME alone - but I am looking forward too it...actually im moreso looking forward to the core online unification v2.0 XMB brings ;)

I suspect ill spend most time in home organizing my own apartment and trophies.

I think there are alot of well thought out aspects ofhome we havent seen yet...just because people are beta testing the GUI right now, there is SOOO much we dont know about the real useful features.

I think the fall beta along with XMB 2.0 will really start to show more.

I'm excited about Home too, but I could live with out it just as well. My hopes for Home is that it brings the Playstation Network and makes it somewhat better and more competitive with Xbox Live. It won't happen, but it might help some things. For example, from Home you can launch a game and go straight into a multiplayer game, sort of how you can with Live.
