This is one of the all-time highest grossing films in South Korea.  Reviews for it have been pretty harsh though, don't expect too much.

Intro from trailer looks like the opening for a PS3 or 360 game, def horrible acting with the token negro spitting out one liners cause LOL BLACK PEOPLE!  Why not straight to DVD or SCI-FI, cause that's what it looks like.

D-War was released in Korea on August 1st 2007. Within 9 days, it attracted 5 million viewers, setting a box-office record as the most watched film on opening week. Despite the film's popularity, film critics were particularly unimpressed by the movie's weak storyline, and questioned Shim's ability as a director.

The positive reaction among the Korean population is widely attributed to the film's appeal to Korean nationalism. At the end of the film in its Korean print, director Shim delivers a message, "D-War and I will succeed in the world market without fail," accompanied by the Korean folk anthem Arirang. Korean film critic Kim Bong-sok said, “They want it to be successful in the U.S. because it’s Korean, not because its good," and called the film "immature and poorly made." Other reactions from Korean critics have been similar.[6].

On August 7th, 2007 South Korea's MBC Morning Live TV Show broadcasted the movie's ending scene on TV, causing a controversy. A few days later the Ministry of Culture and Tourism released a statement that the incident did not violate current South Korean copyright laws, which also caused a buzz.[7]

The same director did it before.  His previous film was a remake of a Korean Godzilla remake from the 60's, also with an all-english cast and completly CGI monsters.  Yongarry, released stateside as Reptillian, and yeah, its really, really bad.  Even as a giant monster movie fanatic, I found very little about it to like.

Yonggary was remarkable as the highest budget Korean film of all time, a title it held for several years.  Up until D-Wars, no other Korean film cost even half, or even a third (or even a fourth) as much as Dragon Wars did to produce.
Even though I'm sure the film will be pants, I'm still kinda hoping it suceeds.  I'd like to see a giant monster  film to make bank, I'd like the Korean film industry to get a shot in the arm that the international success of this film would provide, and I'd like the non-big-studio released film to make some cash for its American distributor.

So you all go ahead and buy yourself a ticket, its for noble reasons, and heck, you might even enjoy yourself.  Just go in with modest expectations.
