I'm really impatient, and I don't like the idea of waiting more than a month to get my freakin computer, especially after putting so much money into it.  Apple was able to have my Mac Pro, heavily customized, shipped in less than a week.  My heavily customized MBP also only took a week to ten days to ship.  Why do PC manufacturers take so much more god damned time?

This is making me really consider a Mac Book for my new portable.  Why are PC manufacturers so shitty when it comes to time?

Nothing yet.  I am rethinking my options.  I am taking suggestions for notebooks in the 2-3000 range.  Under 14 inches is a must.  Under 5 pounds is a big plus.  Mobile broadband via AT&T is alsoa  major plus.

I am looking at Sony shit now, but they only have mobile broadband via Sprint.

Can't help you there...*WIIIINK*  Have you looked at any ASUS notebooks?  They seem to be pretty good to me, but I'm prob teh noob compared to your knowledge as you work in the field.    :-[

It could be the back to school volume which are causing delays.

The last time I ordered a Dell they said I would be getting it at a much later date as well, but was shipped it around two weeks later.  Just keep checking status using the tracking number they send you.

Dell massively overstates their due dates to avoid missing them.  I have to deal with this all the time on the business side.  Ordering on a Monday and getting "2 weeks" usually translates to "you'll have it Friday morning."

Oh, and don't get expedited shipping, it's silly to purchase on build-to-order stuff like this.

EDIT: And get the best support option.  You don't want to have to deal with their stupid lower level support agents, especially on the consumer side.
