halp buying HDTV

It's a bedroom TV, I'm not going to replace the one in the living room yet.

Anywho:

Westinghouse 32" Flat-Panel LCD HDTV $580

Is the front runner. Why are Westinghouse TVs so much cheaper than the competition? Are they shit? I've had a Westinghouse computer monitor for 6 months or so with no problems.

Samsung SlimFit 30" Widescreen Flat-Tube HDTV  $550

What's the deal with this flat tube shit? Is this really an HDTV? Are they heavier than SDTV's of the same size?

Here's the third possibility:

Samsung 26" Flat-Panel LCD HDTV $675

That shit is too small for more money.

I want SD content to keep on looking good (this will never be my primary TV, I'll use it for retro games when I upgrade my main TV). LCD sucks for the purpose, doesn't it? So is it better to go for flat tube? What's the deal nicca?

Westinghouse is low-end that's why it's cheaper.    The quality of LCD TVs vary over a broad spectrum.  There could be a signifcant differenc in image quality even between a medium priced TV and a cheap TV.  If your eyes are not too discerning, you can go with the Westinghouse but for most people, the Samung is a better choice.

stay away from that samsung slimfit crt -- it's really an hdtv, but it has horrible geometry problems. and i'd rather have a 26" samsung lcd than a 32" westinghouse.
