I killed every lizardman I could find. I left no stone unturned in their cave.

I liked her character-not the best of characters in the game, but not that bad either.

The "follower" you get in Chapter 2 is easily the best developed character in the game IMO-the writing and development for that character is really strong, and makes me seriously think that a smaller cast of characters/less party flexibility would be worthwhile if Obsidian could go completely crazy with the character development like they did with that character (who was always in your party).

shandra jerro? i didn't like her that much, since she seemed needy and always needed bolstering. the qara versus sand endgame was awesome, though, especially qara's justification if you favored her: "if sand thinks joining the king of shadows is a good idea, then it must be a bad one because he's an idiot!"

Yeah, Shandra Jerro. I felt that her character actually was pulled off incredibly well-she was needy and self-doubting-she was totally our of her element-but at the same time still had enough of a stubborn farm woman in her to assert herself in the face of mass confusion and chaos in a consistent manner. It's no work of art or anything, but I thought it was handled from beginning to end very well and I definitely enjoyed the dialogue Avellone and co. wrote for her character.

Qara and Sand were great too, of course.

I reinstalled the game to see how it works with the new patch.  The performance is great indoors.  I get 60fps even w/4x aa on 1920x1200.  However, the framerate dips to unplayable levels once I go outside.  I had to turn off all AA for the game to remain at around 30-40fps outdoors.  Did you guys notice big performance drops when you're outdoors?

What are your settings?  I  pretty much set everything to max, except the shadow maps, with VSYNC on.  I'm guessing that 1920x1200 might be a bit too much for a single 8800 GTX.

sigh

Yet another PC game I need to purchase.

It's cheap now.  Also, I'm sure there'll be some great bundle deals when the expansion comes out.   One thing I love about PC games is that 1 yr old games are usually 1/2 the price, which is the way it should be.

Yeah, AA isn't really necessary for a game like NWN2 once you go to 1680x1050 or above.  The AA mostly makes the weapons smoother which is not a big visual difference.  I just turn on AA when there's no performance impact because I might as well.  I might have to upgrade to the 9800 or get another 8800GTX for SLI though.  1920x1200 w/max settings seems to be a bit too much for a single 8800GTX with some of the newer games.  I don't like using 1680x1050 because PC monitors aren't too good at upscaling.

Turn off shadows and turn of AA at high resolutions. Runs fine on my rig a LITTLE choppy in neverwinter but there's a lot going on there.

I think the big problem is people using visual effects that are NOT NEEDED in certain situations. Its taxing on a pc to add useless overhead.

Like MAF said, 1920x1200 w/max settings & 4x anti-aliasing is overkill for most people.  Most people don't even game on a 24 inch monitor so they wouldn't need to tax their videocards with such a high resolution.

at high resolutions you dont need AA, if anything AA at high res makes things look kinda weird around the edges.

Tho im not entirely sure I should have to turn off SHADOWS even if theyre just for the characters. Oh well, got my framerate where I needed it to be and everything else is high res and has sharp textures.

No shadows does look kinda fake.  Did you try turning down texture-filtering or shadow maps resolution instead?

Yeah filtering is down. I didnt bother tweaking it that long cause once I got the framerate I wanted I went at it.

Voice acting in NWN2 has been surprinsingly good so far.  I was expected some 3rd rate generic voice acting.  It seems like a high quality game now that the bugs have been worked out.
