Just caught this on CHUD this morning:

His [Malcom McDowell] Dr. Loomis is so weak that Donald Pleasance is spinning in his grave AND HE'S CREMATED IN AN URN.

John Carpenter's lungs are spinning in their grave. Debra Hill is spinning in her grave. Peter Graves is in spinning class. Poseiden just puked into the sea. The gravespin is increasing as I type this. Fuck it, they might as well start manufacturing rotisserie coffins for anyone who saw the original because the whirring sound you'll be hearing may sound like box office cash registers dinging affirmative Halloween action but it's actually the budding torque of dead Halloween fans in heavy rotation. This is a blight on a very promising directorial career and the reason I want to go fuck a man-raccoon.

I would say that this film is subpar.

One has positive attributes (special effects! robots! nostalgia! decent comedic acting from Shia!) and the other has absolutely none.

Rob Zombie's Halloween is one of those unacknowledged masterpieces of the genre.  Zombie, as a director, is definitely ahead of his time.  Ten years from now, when Brett Ratner's Friday the 13th and Eli Roth's Nightmare on Elm Street are making boffo box office, you guys will look back on Rob Zombie's Halloween and realize it was the start of a new wave for the horror genre.
