Quick Lair Review
« on: September 04, 2007, 08:41:04 PM »
I gave this game a fair shake.  I even went out and purchased it despite having played it beforehand and knowing it sucked since I had been bitching about it for some time. The controls kill any chance of this game being even passable crap.  there is noticeable lag between controller input and onscreen movement when there should be none.  Mapping moves to mimey gestures when they could have been done with precision on a button press in indefensible in this game, as is having a separate control scheme for ground combat than air combat.  The broken vomit inducing lock on camera is enough to make me wish the game was just about the shit controls, since it kills any visceral thrill of combat.  To top it all off I HAVE TO WATCH CUTSCENES WHEN I RESTART A MISSION.  I don't care about the Dragonlance storyline in the first place, why the fuck would you think i'll care when it's presenting again.

Long story short this game is an epic disaster.

I would give it a 3/10 since I have played worse.  Just not much worse.

I've been playing Lair all day and it is simply amazing. If this was a 360 release it would be getting 9 and 10s from reviewers. Unfortunately for Factor 5 their masterpiece could never be accomplished on a last generation format like DVD-9, so they have to suffer from Microsoft throwing around money to reviewers like they have with Paramount and Dreamworks in the movie industry. They can't beat Sony with their inferior hardware so they resort to bribes. Sad sad day for the videogames.

This is actually a real post from someone else at Gaf.   :lol

I've gone through the tutorial and the first two levels, and the lock on feature is the only thing that really annoys me. The motion controls are totally gimmicky, but I haven't had a problem with them.

Far from a perfect game, but not bad* for the $38 I paid for it.

*I should also note that I slog my way through shitty Gundam and other anime-licensed games, so take this with a grain of salt.

Can you give the remote play feature a try?  It's one thing about Lair that seems 1/2 interesting.

Are you getting a slim?  The PSP library is so much better now than 2 yrs ago.  I sold my 1st PSP 3 months after launch but I bought it again in Japan this summer after seeing how many more unique PSP games there were.  The RPG selection is still crap though and sadly it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon.

Buy Lair because "at least it's better than Two Worlds" and it's a "good 38 dollar game".

lair is not better than two worlds, and the controller delay is supposed to "simulate controlling a REAL DRAGON (tm gaftards) with reins"

I own 2 horses and can tell you if they acted like that it'd be off to the glue factory.

That's pretty cool.  Do you own a stable?

Can you try the remote play feature before selling it?  I'm not even going to spend $5 on a rental after reading your depressing review.

I finished Two Worlds btw. I doubt I could finish Lair.

I probably could. I'm an awesome gamer.

you also aren't allowed to say LAIR is bad unless you could make a game that bad yourself

...carry on, then
