No reason to be ashamed about Sex and the City, TVC. We own the complete series set, and I loved watching the damn thing.

As for me, unless Pink Godzilla happens to get Another Century's Episode 3 in, I won't be buying anything today.

Sex and the City S1 was only 24 bucks.  If I end up liking it, I will probably pawn it off and just buy the complete series box set.

Yeah.  First half summed up everything I don't like about the show.  Second half was a bit redeemed.

I really liked the one a couple weeks before that, with Ari scrambling to save Clouds/Silo.

Yes, there will be a third season.

I think we're gonna suck it up and actually start paying for HBO... it's only $15 a month for all their channels, the OnDemand stuff, and HBO HD.

I'm surprised they're managing to keep Paxton and Chloe Sevigny on a TV show for 3 seasons.  You'd think they'd want to get back to movies.

Aside from Kyle MacLachlan in a recurring role in some of the later seasons, I'm not sure if there is much here for you to like.  Unless your tastes have changed and you really enjoy vapid cunts making jokes about how many pairs of shoes they own.

How about $38?  I have the $10 off coupon from the Hard Boiled set here that I've printed out, but I'm reading on CAG that a decent percentage of people aren't having a lot of success with using it.  The barcode doesn't scan (even on real copies of the coupon), the game isn't normally discounted to $48 as it should be, and many cashiers refuse to stack the discounts.

Here's the coupon:

If you're gonna print it out, resize it to 3" x 4".

God why not call it a FIRST PERSON RELOADER. Grunts didn't get repeater rifles in the Civil War.

Nah by the Civil War we had real rifles with proper barrel grooves and appropriate shot design for the guns. Maybe "rifled musket" might be the exact term, but I always thought of the US Civil War as the start of the age of rifleman, which I'm sure cost the union and confederacy and ungodly amount of food and gold to reach.

god I really need a TOTAL WAR take on the US Civil War. It's still years off though. :(

I haven't played one of the old models in a long time so I'm going by memory only.

It's definitely lighter and thinner than the old model.  Even after adding the battery it feels like something is missing.  This combined with the battery slot cover (it feels like it can break easily), the new UMD slot (it has a lid like a cheap CD player and you just drop the UMD in), and the new surface made it feel kind of like a cheap toy.  That went away as soon as I turned it on, though.

The new screen is beautiful.  It's higher contrast, has better colors, and the screen handles movement much better.  I didn't see any motion blur but I was only playing Jeanne.  It's probably brighter but I don't have an old PSP to compare it to (this is much harder to judge for me from memory).  The controls are better than the model I had.  I remember having a problem with one of the diamond buttons hitting the edge of the screen or sticking and that's gone.  The nub feels better than I remember.  You'll have to try these out for yourself, though.  The new surface protects against smudges really well.  After playing I didn't see any thumb prints anywhere which was an annoying problem with the old system.  Battery life seemed the same.  I think I played ~5 hours before needing to recharge (hmm, might have been closer to 4).  I can't compare the load times with the doubled memory, obviously.  I'll just trust that they're slightly better.  The sound, well, it's pretty bad without headphones.  I had a hard time figuring out was being said until I switched to my Senns, then it sounded great.

That's everything I can think of.  Overall, I'm impressed by the system (and by Jeanne d'Arc).  Sony made good changes where it really counts and if it feels more like a toy than a fragile piece of expensive gear, oh well.

Impressions from someone who probably still has one of the old models -

Quote
Yeah, so I'm putting my impressions in here. The PSP Lite is to the PSP as the DS fat is to the DS lite, as far as elegance and design go. Functionally, it's by far a better system and should absolutely be preferred to the old model if you're buying a new PSP, but it's a shame that Sony didn't get usability right the first go-around on the classy PSP1000, since the new one feels toy-like and cheap by comparison.

The old textured back was much more classy, and I really appreciated the grips that made it feel more like a Sony controller. The whole system is glossy now, which makes for more fingerprints and less "touch comfort." I don't like the flat back as much, though I'm sure I'll adjust. The face looks less classy, as well - the face buttons look cheap, the stippling that gave the original its industrial appeal is gone, and it doesn't look like an sci-fi device anymore. It's still OK-looking, but cheaper and more generic.

I like the new UMD slot much better. The old one was senselessly complicated. This one's fast, functional, and simple. I liked the older memory card slot design better, but I don't care much. I'll miss the remote, but I'll live.

The weight reduction makes it much more comfortable to hold, but combined with the all-glossy-plastic construction it makes it feel toylike. I appreciated the "you are holding advanced and fragile electronics" feeling the old PSP gave. This is obviously a change for the better, but it's bittersweet.

The new speakers, despite actually facing at you, seem much worse than the old ones. The sound is tinny and less full than the old PSP. It doesn't seem as loud at maximum volume, either - though is there some iPod-esque volume limitation control in the menu?

The D-pad is raised much higher than the old one, for a much better experience. The buttons aren't raised as much by comparison, but they're a millimeter or two higher and that improves the experience. The shoulder buttons still don't feel great, but I think they're better. I don't notice any change in the nub. Though I long preferred Sega's more yielding button approach, which Sony adopted, I've come around to the Nintendo "firm" approach to buttons now and the mushiness of these is hard to get used to. (Though these are mushier than anything Sega ever put out, except maybe the Game Gear.)

My benchmark for terrible PSP controls was Katamari Damacy, which killed my hands on the old PSP. While it's still not very fun on the new PSP, it's much less frustrating and easier to play. I'll try Gunpey tonight - that was a game that I wanted to like but the controls drove me crazy on.

So, uh, anyone want a Family Guy UMD for cheap?

Oh, spoke too soon

3.60 already dumped, all it needs is to be hacked and exploited somehow, and with Dark Alex at the helm it shouldn't be too long

http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSP-Slim-s-firmware-3-60-dumped-thanks-partly-to-Dark-AleX/pg/49/aid/101850

Quote
In this particular news bit we'll be reporting details two topics you guys may be very familiar with: The PSP Slim, and developer Dark AleX.

The first news bit goes that coder Mathieulh (aka Math) has successfully dumped the Slim's 3.60 firmware. To prove this point, Math posted a screenshot taken of the Slim's kd folder in the flash0 directory. That would be the screenie displayed to your right.

What makes this news all the more exciting is that Mathieulh reports the dude who helped with the dump is none other than Dark AleX. Yes, dear readers - the famed CFW creator has apparently come out of retirement (or is it now a sabbatical?) to take a crack at Sony's latest handheld offering. At the moment, Mathieulh won't divulge any details on how this procedure was pulled off - this exercise simply proves that hacking the Slim is possible.

Drop back again in case we pick up any details. Or, you can also opt to drop by Skyline34's thread over at the QJ.NET Forums, where we picked up this news snippet.
