What state is this politician from?
« on: September 05, 2007, 07:03:11 PM »
1. He wants to fund religious schools using tax funds (FULL FUNDING). This includes evangelical schools and Muslim schools.

2. He thinks creationism should be taught in science class.

3. He thinks evolution is "JUST A THEORY".

spoiler (click to show/hide)
He's not from a state. He's John Tory and he's running for Priemier (like a governor) of Ontario, CANADA.

Is that a [sic] or not?
It was a typo edited right before you posted. Writing in caps is hard work.

On one hand, I'm sorry to see a socially reactionary candidate get a toehold in Canada.

On the other hand, I'm glad the canucks get one less thing to lord over us.

It's like when my Brit friends would go on about how superior their comedy was, and I could yell "What about Benny Hill!?"  Then I'd sing "God Bless The USA" and wave a custom flag with the stars replaced by tiny eagles.

That's like saying a country cannot ridicule another country that has a massive murder rate because it has experienced one or two homicides. This kind of pandering is rare in Canada. And, looking at the polls, not very popular. This issue is probably going to cost the Conservatives the Ontario election. In the US these kind of politicians get elected all the time. TO THE WHITE HOUSE!

I should mention that John Tory is considered to be a 'red Tory' and he even marched in the Gay Pride parade. This is a cynical move to court the 'ethnic vote'. I should also mention that because of historical reasons about half the public schools in Ontario are Catholic. Some make the argument that the government should thus fund all religious schools, to be consistent. However, it is not Ontario's fault that the French were not Sikhs.
