I have structured this like a gamefaqs.com review on purpose...it deserves nothing better. I've played 13 hours of this.
"Luminous Arc, definitely not DS GOTY, sorry MAF"
Graphics: 6/10Animu crap. Decent for what it is. The spells and attacks are simplistic, renamed spells for characters act out like another spell for a different person, nothing cool about the names of said moves either. Badly Compressed 'FMV' intro. Horridly minimal death animation.
Sound: 5/10 (average)The sound, well... the voice acting is OK. I hate some of their voices with a passion however. Fucking whiny witches and that gay witch lovers voice is the worst voice
EVER. Spell/move attacks are ok sounding, nothing special.
Game play: 6/10Battles are basic, to say the least. Most of the time you can just gang up on one guy, heal, and move your group to the next soldier or whatever. When you fight a witch, you have to think things out a bit more, they are long ranged annoying, as are archers. Fuck archers. Oh and healers just wont die.
OK, everyone gets a turn, you move your character to where you want them to move.
Then you can choose attack, which depending on the role they are is either ranged or just a sword attack. You have MP, some skills or magic use those, lol. Oh and FP which gives you special attacks, they are mostly useless and for when you run out of MP. They do less damage then regular attacks often. Some do status effects, but other then poison I have never gotten one to work.
Story: 5/10This story is very cliche.
Plot twists that shouldnt surprise you
You grow up believing what the Churches tell you, they end up being the bad guy.
Witches who you were born to hate/kill, end up being the good guys, angels and god are evil aliens bent on the worlds destruction.
Oh and your mentor is a moron who wont believe you after you tell him the truth and fights you one on one. (which if you are not prepared, forces you to waste a good hour leveling up)
Some side storys about sir heath knowing iris and leons father being killed by that heavly armored church dude whose name ive forgotten.
Nothing to see here.
He eventually joins you again I assume. Don't care.
Re-playability: 4/10I see no reason to replay this game, sorry.
There is a new game +, but the story is not something worth reading/hearing twice.
Overall: 6/10Somewhat fun, has voice acting, and will satisfy SRPG fans because their is nothing else on DS to quench the thirst.
Cliche story, semi-interesting characters if you are a sucker and watch shitty anime often.
