they demo it with quake 3.  the way it works is that it constantly updates about 4-5 players and as the other players become more and more out of your "focus zone", they get updated less frequently.  the way that it doesn't make the players in the distance just jump around on your screen is that it creates a "guided" AI that predicts what they'll do depending on their last updated action in the game.

in the demo, it seems to work well.  they say this can be used to have battles with hundreds or thousands of players.  he specifically says you can target a single person in the distance and hit them.

The DonnyBrook demo videos appear to be far more lagged than the other one.  Either someone fucked up with the video clips or this is total garbage.

could just be a bad demo.  I'd wait until I played it to see if it's good.

I dunno if they could predict my WoW character running against a wall for 3 minutes as I hold a conversation.

Arent Halo2 and Killzone 2 online supposed to be MMORPG'ish shooters with games/matches isolated to temp zones?

wait.  what?  there's normal matches where you're paired against people who have a similar level in the game mode you're playing.  there's 16 players max but ranked matches have 8 players.  the host is chosen by the server.

But dont they somehow try to tie the battles together into some kind of larger campaign/war?

O know killzone 2 will do this online....there will be zone control with visual indicators....if a City zone is overrun and dominated by the Helghast, it will look ruined and poisoned. If controlled by the humans, it will look normal and have clear skies ;)

I have heard Resistance 2 online will also do this kind of stuff to make online feel like a giant persistant war.

Ill be happy if Killzone 2 can present even a decent single player experience. Killzone 1 was mediocre and Liberation wasnt even an FPS. There's no reason for me to assume they are doing things right by the game.

chromehounds and mechassault 2 did that but the changes happened after the battle was over.
