Awhile back there was a story about a woman who was having twins and she found out one of them was autistic so she tried to have it aborted, but both ended up being aborted, and it got me thinking if a handicap can be a justifiable reason to get one.

I know this may sound odd being handicapped myself, but I think that if it's a physical handicap than no, because it's still possible for the person to have a full life, but in a case of a mental handicap I think yes because you're pretty much fucked and have no chance of leading a full life.

Well, if a person is only physically handicapped (unless it's something severe like quadroplegic) normally just some extensions or whatnot is needed, but if he's mentally handicapped there really isn't much you can do.

I don't want to raise a kid who's physically handicapped, so, yeah, I would probably opt for the abortion.  I can't imagine having a kid who'll never be able to wipe himself after going to the toilet, or take a shower, or put on a pair of pants.  That's just fucked up.

You asked the question, so don't be upset by the answers.

But a person can do those things with help of certain devices, a person who is so mentally challenged that they couldn't are pretty much screwed.

Did you just forget to log back in as Synbios?

The percentage of mentally handicapped people who are handicapped so much that they cannot wipe their own ass is pretty damned low. Meanwhile, there are physically handicapped people who don't actually have an ass to poop out of. What do you have to say about them?
I'm not talking in mild cases. I'm talking in cases where you have a moderate case of one physical and one mental, in which case mental handicap is worse. Normally a physically handicapped person can do things fine with adaptions, but you can't adapt a mentally challenged person.

And when I said mental handicap I didn't mean just having a harder time comprehending certain things that given enough time you can, I'm talking rain man type.

Moderate vs moderate. They're both called moderate because the outcomes are the same. Both moderate mental handicap and moderate physical handicap need some support. Neither is worse than the other.

That's hardly moderate :P
Why don't you compare Rainman with Stephen King?
How is one not worse than the other? Someone who needs a special adaption to do things like wipe his ass/shower is better off than someone who is to mentally challenged to be able to comprehend how to.

the only real justification that there is for an abortion is that you don't want children/can't support them.

People don't ever come up with general abortion plans.  If they want a child and the kid wouldn't feel held back because of their handicap, they'll most likely want it.

I think Ichirou's onto something.

For example groo, it's better for you to be able to post and type using some adaption by being physically handicapped, then it is for you to stare at the screen and keyboard going "durrrr".

Why is that better? You think having the ability to post on evilbore makes you superior to someone who doesn't know what a keyboard does?  :lol
I'm just saying that at least a physically handicapped person could understand what he was doing, a mentally challenged person couldn't.

Here you go with your bullshit again.
A typical mentally handicapped person has the capacity to know what they are doing. They are just restricted in their ability to develop. There are actually physically handicapped people who can't control their body too, no matter how many contraptions you can invent. Where would they fit into your comparison? You're comparing mozarella to gorgonzola, and asking which one tastes more like a tomato.
I'm not talking about "typical mentally handicapped" people. I'm talking rain man type.

Synbios. Your life is sitting at home on the computer never talking to people. There are PLENTY, if not a majority of mentally distinguished mentally-challenged people who lead much fuller social lives.

So why are they the ones to be aborted in your mind set?
