I upgraded the ram when I bought it. Not a bad little laptop for an even 1000 (pretax of course). My only reservations is the kinda slow hd speed and the battery life. I saw another hp there for a bit more and while it was faster and had 2 gigs standard it had integrated video blech.
Still, its got enough power and is small enough to fit in a messenger bag. Also, this is not a tablet. The screen just swivels for display which is worthless but whatever.
